2018 Holiday Gift Guide :Body Butters and Castor oil sets from Kreyol Essence

Hello folks!

How about some ethically sourced beauty products from Haiti for the loved ones on your gift list this year? Sounds good huh..let me introduce you to Kreyol Essence. I love the story behind the brand and also how the brand is focused on creating jobs for the locals in Haiti, especially women! Their star product is Black Castor oil from Haiti which is great for your hair and skin.

I love products developed on long standing ancient wisdom from different cultures because there is usually an ounce of truth in grandma’s beauty secrets ( unless it has been proven dangerous by modern science). I was thus quite excited to try out Kreyol Essence products since I have heard about castor oil being great for your hair and eyebrows but never knew that it was a great moisturizer for your skin too! Check out their website (HERE) to learn more about the brand, castor oil and how they are a social impact driven company.

I got a chance to try out their body butters, available in 4 scents; Lavender Hibiscus, Haitian Vetiver, Cafe au lait and Mango, Papaya Coconut Rhum Punch.

Kreyol Essence Body Butters

I can attest to the fact that Cafe au lait and Mango, Papaya Coconut Rhum punch smell delicious enough to eat! (Do not eat!! :D) Lavender Hibiscus and Haitian Vetiver have very soothing and calming scents..perfect to slather on to your skin after a late night shower to lull you into dreamland.

The body butters are triple whipped and look so dreamy in the tub (again makes me want to eat them ๐Ÿ˜€ ).

Triple whipped and luxurious!

All of these body butters are infused with Haitian Castor seed oil and enriched with a whopping 30% of shea butter. They do not contain any parabens, mineral oil or petroleum products. I really like the ingredient list of these body butters. Take a look!

I think these body butters make fantastic gifts..they are available in different sizes so you can always pick up a few of the smaller sizes as stocking stuffers!

When Kreyol Essence sent me these body butters they also sent along 3 vials of their scented Haitian Black Castor oils. These can be used on the hair, scalp or as a post shower body oil. I plan to test them out as body oil since they smell amazing! They sent me the chocolate, Rosemary Mint and Lavender Hibiscus. I can smell them without opening the seal completely. I didn’t open them up completely since I didn’t want these to go rancid… I am currently going through my stash of body oil you see ๐Ÿ™‚

Kreyol Essence has a ton of gift options and gift boxes on their website currently. Some of the gift boxes are marked down so check them out!!

Overall, I am very impressed with the body butters and look forward to trying some of the other products on their website. Have you tried anything from Kreyol Essence? Let me know!

Until next time, ciao!!!

Around the World via Beauty Products~ Himalaya Herbals from India!

Hello folks!ย As I mentioned in my last week’s blog post, I am currently chilling out at my parent’s place.ย They are currentlyย based in Oman, a lovely quiet country in the middle east. You can find all the global brands here and also some interesting new items in the local beauty stores ๐Ÿ™‚ I got a chance to try out a body moisturizer from the brand Himalaya Herbals which I picked up from the local drugstore. The cream is made in the Dubai but the original brand is from India, so I thought I should include this in the around the world via beauty products section of the blog!

Himalaya Herbals Nourishing Skin Cream
Himalaya Herbals Nourishing Skin Cream

The body cream comes packed in a tub, and with no outer box. The packaging is okay, nothing fabulous. A little online search reveals that the company Himalaya Herbals products are based on the ancient Indian system of Ayurveda, where they use plant and herb extracts in their products. This moisturizer has extracts of Aloe Vera and Winter Cherry according to the label, however there is no comprehensive ingredient list so I do not know the other ingredients in this moisturizer. This is the only major issue I have with this moisturizer.

The moisturizer has a lovely whipped light texture which is absorbed quickly and does not leave a greasy after feel, making this a pretty good moisturizer for the summer months! The best part about this moisturizer is the smell…I love it! It is a very fresh, light scent which is not too fruity nor is it too floral. It is a nice blend of fruity floral which is very spring summer appropriate in my opinion ๐Ÿ™‚

Overall, I am enjoying this moisturizer although the lack of a comprehensive ingredient list is a bit of a let down. I would love to try their face products but again the lack of an actual ingredient list is making me really hesitant to try them.

Have you tried anything from Himalaya Herbals? Let me know what you think of them if you have ๐Ÿ™‚

Until next time..ciao from sunny Oman!!!

Around the World via Beauty Products- Rosense from Turkey!

Hello everyone!

Hope you all are having a great week so far! It has been a really long time since I did one of my Around the world via beauty posts. Today , I am excited to share with you guys my experience using the brand Rosense from Turkey. ย I was fortunate to visit this lovely country last summer and of course I had to pick up some local beauty stuff! I did do some online research on which brands to look out for and I saw that everyone recommended picking up rose water by the brand Rosense since it was 100% pure rose water.

Rosense Rose water
Rosense 100% rose water

I have never used rose water on my skin before but I have heard that it is a great natural toner and has anti bacterial properties. I have seen a few brands selling rose water, but most of them have glycerin or preservatives. It was nice to get my hands on something that was just pure distilled rose water.

I use this at night after cleansing my face and before moisturizing. It takes very little to soak a cotton pad and patting it onto my skin has become one of my favorite steps in my skin care routine! It is nice and refreshing and smells divine.

I honestly, can’t tell if it has improved my skin but but I find that my moisturizer sinks in better after this step. I just like how it feels on my skin , generally lifts your mood (must be the smell of roses!) and makes you feel like your in a Spa!

A little online search shows that Rosense has a Canada and UK website and they are available on amazon UK. I ย think it is available in Germany too although I didn’t find a country specific website.

It would be awesome if Rosense was more readily available..its a Spa for your face in a nice Pink bottle ๐Ÿ˜€

Overall, I like this to generally pamper my face and it is quite uplifting after a long day.Have you tried Rose water in your beauty routine? Do let me know your favorite brands of Rose water!

Until next time… ciao!!

Around the world via beauty products; Kissed by Maui lipsticks from Hawaii!

Hey there everyone!

I have been running this series on the blog for a while now and I am excited to bring you a brand which is from the home country ๐Ÿ™‚ I have not been to Hawaii, but hope to visit at some point..but for the time being I am absolutely enjoying some lipsticks made by hand in Hawaii by the cruelty free brand Kissed by Maui.

Kissed by Maui lipsticks
Kissed by Maui lipsticks

First off, lets take a moment to admire the packaging! I love the sturdy bamboo tube with the brand name and logo engraved on the wood. They come with a pink ribbon around the lid along with the list of ingredients (which is an awesome ingredient list in my opinion..jojoba oil and shea butter are my favorite moisturizing agents). The 2 shades that I got are Paradise Pink and Haleakala Nights.

Paradise Pink is your everyday blue toned pink lipstick which I feel might be one of their popular colors. It is the perfect shade for spring and summer!

Kissed by Maui lipstick in Paradise Pink

The second shade is not your average lipstick shade ๐Ÿ˜€ Take a look at Haleakala Nights!

Kissed by Maui lipstick in Haleakala Nights
Kissed by Maui lipstick in Haleakala Nights

In the tube, this shade looks like a mix of brown, black and red with some blue-green duo chrome action going on. I was quite surprised with the swatch since I did not expect the shade to turn out so …mild looking :D! I was expecting vampy goth red black! Although it looks brown in the swatch and on my lips, this is actually a nice complex shade with the light picking up the blue green sheen very subtly. My lips are naturally quite pigmented so this might come off looking really dark on paler lips. I am currently loving this shade, its a nude dark shade which can work as your fall time nude lip ๐Ÿ™‚

I really can’t think of any cons about these lipsticks. They apply beautifully and last 5 -6 hours with light eating and drinking. They have a creamy finish with a sheen (neither glossy nor matte) and do not dry my lips. In fact, I did wear Haleakala Lights without a lip balm underneath a couple of times and it was very comfortable!ย The date of manufacture is also listed underneath the tube of lipstick and I feel that is helpful when you want to keep a check on the expiry of your lip products (esp when you have plenty!!).

If your one of those who love to support small local business this holiday season, I think these lipsticks make fabulous stocking stuffers! I am thinking of picking some up for friends since they are packaged well and the product is fantastic too! I believe they are currently available only through their website : www.kissedbymaui.com

Hope your having a great day! Until next time ciao!!

Around the world via beauty products: Sante Naturkosmetik from Germany !

Hello everyone!

Welcome to another installment of Around the world via beauty products! Today we travel to Germany and the brand transporting us there is Sante Naturkosmetik. The brand and its mother brand (Logona) are often mentioned by green beauty bloggers since they are committed to using natural organic raw materials like essential oils and botanical extracts in all their products. After testing out some products from them, I have to say I am impressed and might go back to check out their other offerings!

Sante Naturkosmetik
Sante Naturkosmetik

I tried out a face powder and lipstick from the brand. I also got the mascara to try out but currently I have too many open tubes of mascara around the house so I thought I’d wait till I am done with a few of them before cracking this one open. A detailed review on the mascara is coming your way soon! With that being said, lets take a look at the face powder and lipstick shall we? ๐Ÿ™‚

Pressed powder light sand 02

Their pressed powder is available in 4 shades so I am not sure if the fairest of the fair and deepest of the deep of skintones can find a match. The shade light sand 02 works very well for my NC25-30 skintone. I was a bit concerned if the powder would work for me initially, since it looked like it had ย pink undertones in the pan, however on the face this powder gives you a translucent soft focus finish which is nice! The powder is meant to be more of a finishing powder than foundation, but it was still able to even out my skintone when used alone. yay!

Pressed powder shade 02
Sante Naturkosmetik Pressed powder shade 02

The powder comes packaged in a sturdy white case which has a nice big mirror too. I like the overall presentation of the product including the name embossing on the powder (which is beginning to fade with use boohoo!). Coming back to functionality, this powder does a decent job at keeping oil at bay. I have dry skin and so I don’t get too oily anyway to begin with, so I guess this will work for dry and combo skin. The powder is not a flat out matte one, it contains some really tiny specks of shimmer which is not captured on camera nor is it detectable on the face. I think this is why it can give that soft focus yet natural look on the face ๐Ÿ™‚

The only thing I don’t like about this powder is the smell. It has a strong Chamomile smell which fades away almost immediately after application but you do get an ample whiff of it when you first apply it on your face. As you can see from the ingredient list, there are quite a few interesting oils and extracts in addition to the standard mineral makeup ingredients in this powder. Usually I am weary of face products with too many essential oils and botanical extracts because they can irritate the skin but I am happy to report that this powder did not irritate or dry out my skin ๐Ÿ™‚

Lipstick in Poppy Red (No 23)

I really like this lipstick! Its a lovely raspberry red shade! Their lipsticks are formulated with no synthetic colors, fragrances and preservatives..cool right!? The lipstick glides on really smoothly and has a shine after application. It looks creamy matte after the initial shine wears off and is non drying.

Sante Naturkosmetik Lipstick in no 23
Sante Naturkosmetik Lipstick in no 23

The wear time for this lipstick is average..I would say maybe 5 hours with light eating and drinking. Overall, I like the lipstick since it does not bleed, is comfortable on the lips, has no smell and has a decent lasting power.

As promised at the beginning of this post, I will review the mascara once I try it out ๐Ÿ™‚ I like the products I tried out and in case your wondering if they are sold in the US…yup they are! Check out their websiteย http://www.logocos.us/sante/index.aspxย to see what else they have to offer.

Hope you guys are having a great day and until next time…ciao!!

Around the world via beauty products: ‘Fragrances of Ireland’ from Ireland !

Hello everyone!!

If you’ve been following this series on my blog you might already know how exciting this series is for me and hopefully your enjoying it as much as I am ! ๐Ÿ™‚ Today is the 3rd installment of the around the world via beauty products series and if you would like to check out the past brands and places featured do check out the category around the world via beauty on the side bar of the blog. Today we are travelling to lovely Ireland! The company Fragrances of Ireland is an independent perfume house whose products are inspired by the beauty and nature of Ireland. One of their core fragrances is called Inis which means island in Irish and it is inspired by the western coast of Ireland. Lets take a look at this collection shall we? ๐Ÿ˜€

Inis, the energy of the sea
Inis, the energy of the sea

I like the simple clean packaging which is very representative of what the Inis line stands for..the sea, the beach, coolness and clear water. In this post I will be sharing my views on 3 products from this line ๐Ÿ™‚

Inis, the energy of the sea cologne spray

This is the core product of this line and it is described as being unisex. I like the clean scent of Inis however I like the smell of this more on my husband than on myself ๐Ÿ˜€ This is the type of scent he usually gravitates to.. clean fresh smelling scents which are not too woody or musky. The cologne comes with a little booklet which explains the scent really well. Here is the description for those of you who are perfume connoisseurs:

Top Notes: Sparkling, diffusive citrus notes of Sicilian lemon, Bergamont, Neroli and traces of marine notes

Middle notes: Muguet (lilly of the valley) and Geranium

Bottom notes: Enriching and deepening spice notes of cloves and nutmeg combined with sandalwood, oakmoss and musk

The top notes I detect the most is the smell of Neroli and bergamont. The top notes as you might have noticed are all clean and light smelling. You can very distinctively detect the lilly of the valley middle notes after a point of time. I am no expert in perfumery, but I do know that the way the different notes play out depends on your body core temperature and hence you can detect subtle differences in how it smells on various people.

Inis, the energy of the sea cologne spray
Inis, the energy of the sea cologne spray

The cologne spray comes in a frosty bottle and the name Inis is etched on to the bottle. I am not a fan of the cap of this bottle, which is hard to pull out sometimes! ย Overall, I like this cologne on my husband! It does not disappear at the end of the day and it is subtle enough to wear to work. Does this remind me of the sea? …it does in some ways..the coolness of the scent, the calming and the feel good feeling you get after sniffing it do remind you of a day at the beach or on a boat at sea.

Inis, the energy of the sea body lotion

This is the body lotion with the same scent as the cologne. However, I feel that the middle notes are more prominent when you apply the body lotion on your skin. The body lotion primarily comprises of triglycerides, glycerin and shea butter to do the job of moisturizing. The other non prominent but good for the skin ingredients present include fucus vesiculosus extract and laminaria digitata extract (seaweed extracts).

Inis, the energy of the sea body lotion
Inis, the energy of the sea body lotion

The body lotion is not very heavy or greasy feeling on the skin so it is perfect for the summer months or if your looking for a fast absorbing body lotion.

Inis, the energy of the sea nourishing hand cream

This is a 20% shea butter hand cream and I absolutely love this! It is nice, creamy and has just the right hint of the fragrance making it an ideal hand cream. No ones likes an over powering scent to their hand cream. The mild classic scent of Inis makes this quite the refreshing hand cream too!

Inis, the energy of the sea nourishing hand cream
Inis, the energy of the sea nourishing hand cream

This is a fast absorbing but deep conditioning hand cream with no greasy after feel like most other hand creams which have a high proportion of shea butter in them. What makes this extra special is of course the light subtle clean scent ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope you guys enjoyed this post! Frangrances of Ireland has several other collections which are all inspired by Ireland so if your in the mood to experience Ireland from the comfort of your home do check out what else they have to offer;ย www.fragrancesofireland.com

Until next time, ciao!!

Around the world via beauty products: FACE Stockholm from Sweden !

Hello everyone!!

So a couple of weeks ago I had started the around the world series on my blog (Intro HERE) with our first stop being France (HERE). Today the second installment of this series takes us to lovely Sweden ๐Ÿ™‚ When I think of Swedish products the adjectives that comes to mind are sleek, functional, practical and simple elegance. The brand from Sweden we are discussing today embodies all these qualities! I am sure atleast some of you are familiar with the brand FACE Stockholm. FACE Stockholm started off in Sweden in 1982 and is now available in the US and other European countries.

FACE Stockholm
FACE Stockholm

FACE Stockholm has an extensive array of products from makeup products and brushes to body and skincare. Today lets take a look at 2 products from the line; namely the lipstick and cream eyeshadow ๐Ÿ™‚

1.Lipstick

The founder of FACE Stockholm started the brand since she wanted to have makeup of every possible color and this is truly reflected in the mind boggling shade range they have when it comes to their lipstick collection! I had a hard time choosing a shade from the 148 shades of lipstick on their website!!! ๐Ÿ˜€ I finally settled for the shade named Cool and am quite happy with the color!

Face Stockholm lipstick in Cool
Face Stockholm lipstick in Cool

I love the packaging of the lipstick. It comes in a nice sleek metal tube. The lipsticks from FACE Stockholm come in 3 finishes; matte, creamy and subtle veil. The shade Cool is in the creamy finish and it does apply beautifully on the lips. Although the lipstick does not have as much slip as traditional creamy lipsticks, it is not drying either. So if your looking for a non drying creamy finish lipstick without the slipperiness that comes with most creamy lippies then this one might be for you!

Swatch on arm and on lips!
Swatch on arm and on lips!

Although I generally shy away from cool toned pinks I really like this one! It has a really rich pigmentation to it and does not fade too much with eating and drinking. Understandably, the initial luster might go away after some eating/drinking but the pigment stays on the lips far longer. I also did not notice any bleeding. yay !!

2. Cream eyeshadow or Kramogonskugga as they say in Sweden!

I was excited to try this out! I don’t have too many cream eyeshadow products and at heart I think I will always be a powder shadow girl ๐Ÿ˜€ I chose the shade Chintz since it was a nice light shade which can be used all over the lid for any occasion or as a base for powder eye shadows.

Cream shadow in Chintz
Cream shadow in Chintz

I absolutely love the texture of this cream shadow! Its like touching creamy butter ๐Ÿ˜€ It has a shimmer finish and looks fantastic as an all over the lid neutral shade. For my medium skin tone it worked well as a shade to perk up tired looking eyes. I tested this out when attending a wedding where a lot of dancing and running around was involved ( read sweaty ) and was impressed with how well this held up. I did not notice any creasing or fading at the end of the day (I did use a primer since I always use a primer when attending events)
I do have to warn you though that the jar is tiny! There is 4g of product in the jar and the neck of the jar is quite tiny. If you have long nails and want to get some product out with your fingertips you might experience some difficulty.

Overall, I love these 2 items that I tried out from FACE Stockholm! The quality and colors are top notch!

I hope your enjoying the the around the world in beauty series as much as I am! Its a fantastic way to discover some lovely products originating from different parts of the world ๐Ÿ™‚

Until next time…ciao!!
