Clio Art Highlighter in Pearl White

I love pretty packaging. That sure can be a problem sometimes especially when shopping for makeup! I fell for this highlighter from Clio because of how beautiful the compact looks. Adding more pretty things to your makeup drawer is okay right..especially if it is a highlighter πŸ˜‰

Clio Art Highlighter

The compact is plastic but looks and feels sturdy. The art work is printed on it and also on the outer box. I didn’t have the heart to throw away the outer box since the print looks like a water color painting.

There are 3 shades of this highlighter available. 01 pearl white is the one I picked up. The other 2 shades are gold toned and rosy toned. Having a medium color skin tone, I kind of shy away from white based highlighter since they can look frosty on my skin coloring. I decided to take a chance with this one and am happy I did!

Clio Art highlighter in 01 Pearl White

As you can see it is a baked product and gives a lovely sheen to the skin. It is not a chunky highlighter nor is it the very intense type of highlighter people seem to like these days. This is a soft and subtle highlighter like the Bobbie brown shimmer bricks can be. It looks lovely when buffed into the skin.

The compact comes with a nice mirror and also a brush which feels really nice. I have not used the brush but I am sure it will work fine in a pinch.

Swatch of 01 Pearl White

As you can see, this highlighter lets your skin peak thru a bit when it is buffed into the skin ( I swatched the highlighter with a brush) and that makes it look a bit more natural. I love the glow it imparts and it stays put all day too.

Overall, I am extremely happy to own this highlighter. I might just go ahead and pick up the other shades too some time soon πŸ˜€

Until next time, ciao!!!

Kiko Milano Long lasting eyeshadow stick

Hello folks!

I have always wanted to try the Laura Mercier caviar sticks, but somehow that purchase keeps getting pushed to the back burner. One of the reasons being my doubts on if I’ll actually use it enough. Cream products always land up in the back of my drawer since I kind of skim over them when hurrying out the door. The Kiko Milano long lasting eyeshadow sticks are touted as being dupes for the Laura Mercier ones, so when I got a chance to visit a Kiko store I decided to try one out. And not surprisingly (like a lot of the Kiko stuff I’ve tried) I am in love!

IMG_3879_1
Kiko Milano long lasting eyeshadow stick

The kiko ones are more cost effective compared to the Laura Mercier ones especially if they have a sale going on. I don’t remember how much I paid but it was below the 10$ mark for sure!

I picked up the shade 38 which is lovely taupe with specks of gold shimmer. It reminds a little of the Blink 1982 shadow from The Balm Jovi Palette by The Balm.

Shade 38

The shadow sticks applies beautifully. No tugging no nonsense..just the perfect creamy glide over the lids. The shadow is super pigmented too and lives up to the 8 hour no transfer claims. I have used it with and without primer and it does not budge or crease.

I find myself using the shadow stick for a quick eye look before dashing out of the door. These can also be used as bases for other eyeshadows and can be blended within the first 30 seconds or so after application. They set and become budge proof after that!

Overall, I highly recommend the Kiko Milano eyeshadow sticks! They have the perfect price tag, are pigmented, long lasting and also very travel friendly. I plan to pick up a few more shades. Do you have any shade recommendations?

Until next time, ciao !!!

Moonlab Gold Snail Vital up Essential Cream

Hello folks!

Recently I dived into K Beauty and found out I love all things snail πŸ™‚ I tried out a trial sample of the It’s Skin Prestige Cream d’ escargot which was amazing for my skin. I just couldn’t bring myself to bite the bullet and buy the full size bottle which costs around 65$. There are so many snail creams out there, what if I find one that works just as well but is cheaper?

So, off I go to Amazon to check the bazillion snail creams they have there and stumbled upon the Moonlab Gold Snail Vital up Essential Cream. It was selling at a price of 10$ so I decided to see if they really have snail filtrate and gold in there. I found out that this cream was being sold for around 88 dollars in Singapore (Thanks Google)! So this had to be a fake one right? Nope! Turns out that the seller is the actual company that makes these creams so this was not a knock off. Maybe the company is doing some sort of promotional price and since it was only 10 bucks I decided to buy it.

Moonlab Gold Snail Vital up Essential Cream

A few days later I got the cream in the mail. The box and the cream tub looked nice and luxe. I liked the silver lettering on the coffee maroon lid. The cream came with a nice spatula too. My first impressions were immediately dampened when I saw the expiration date on the outer box. The cream was all set to expire in 10 days! You get what you pay for πŸ˜› That was the reason this guy was only 10 bucks.

So I decided to test the cream out for 10 days and another 10 days post expiration. The ingredient list looked real good which was one of the reasons I got it. Take a look.

IMG_3877_1
Ingredient List

It has Sodium Hyaluronate, Snail filtrate, glycerin, niacin amide…. all as the first couple of ingredients. This is the stuff my dry skin loves.

The cream has a nice pleasant smell. I can’t describe it..its not overly floral but it is a very faint floral scent which is not over powering. The texture of the cream is a bit stringy compared to the the It’s Skin Prestige Creme d’ Escargot snail cream. However, it feels really nice when applied to the skin. The cream sinks right in and my skin did feel moisturized the next day morning.

IMG_3876_1
Slightly stringy with gold flecks best describes the cream!

I am not sure if those gold bits did anything for my skin. I used to find small specks of it on my face sometimes..other than look like I went for a late night craft lesson I doubt it did anything.

Overall, it was a decent moisturizer. But was it amazing..nah. I did not find my skin looking any brighter or radiant. It did not do anything for my blemishes, redness, dullness etc. I don’t see myself re purchasing this one again ( especially not if they sell old stock that expires in 10 days). There are so many snail creams out there for me to try!

Have you tried the Moonlab Snail cream? or any of their other products?

Until next time, ciao!!

Natio Argan and Almond Facial Cleansing balm

Hello folks!

One of the things I love about travelling is trying out new beauty products ( and of course food!) I can’t find back at home. Natio is an Australian natural beauty brand that I picked up in India. They have lots of skincare products ,color cosmetics and also candles. I found their products to be reasonably priced. I picked up the Argan and Almond facial cleaning balm and also a 10 minute brightening mask which I’ll talk about in detail soon.

IMG_3884_1
Natio Argan and Almond facial cleansing balm

The balm comes in a no frills tube which makes it an ideal travel companion. I am a fan of using cleansing oils to remove makeup, but travelling with them can be a bit difficult. This guy sorted that problem! The only con was that every once in a while when it gets cold, the oils in the tube solidify to a thick paste that you need to use a bit of pressure to get out. This also sometimes results in too much of the stuff coming out of the tube at once.

The balm is easy to use, just like any cleansing oil you take some of the balm and work it gently onto your dry face. Once the oils break down all your makeup, wash with water to get all your makeup off. I found the balm to be good at removing all my makeup including heavy eye makeup. This does have a slight herbal smell, which does not bother me at all since it is quite mild.

IMG_3885_1
Ingredient List

As you can see the ingredient list is quite nice! I love that Almond oil is number 2 on the ingredient list. The herbal smell is likely due to the combination of all the different flower oils listed.

After you wash off the cleansing balm with water, it leaves a coating/residue on the skin which I suspect is due to the beeswax and candelilla wax. This is not an issue for me since I always double cleanse when I wear makeup , so after the cleansing balm step, I go in with a foaming cleanser to make sure everything is cleaned off from my face. If you were looking to use this as your only cleanser this might be a deal breaker unless your skin is so dry it loves that waxy layer πŸ™‚

Overall, I really like this cleansing balm and look forward to trying more of their products! I found some of Natio’s products on amazon so maybe I don’t have to travel too far to try something more from the brand!

Have you tried Natio products? What do you recommend I try from them next?

Until next time, ciao!!!

Transitioning into fall: What I’m loving at the moment!

Hello folks!

It is getting chilly these days..sunny days are precious! Baby boy is not loving the cold chilly breeze in Boston city, neither is his mama πŸ™‚ Recently, I realized I have been grabbing the same products quite often and decided to share them here with all of you.

IMG_3872_1
Current favorites!

Burberry Fresh Glow BB Cream: I have a love hate relationship with this one! it is greasy in the summer but in the colder months it is perfect for my skin. It has almost no coverage, but it does give a little pep talk to your skin before you apply anything more. I find it comfortable and it does not cling to any dry patches.

Bourjois Rouge Velvet Lipstick in Brique-a-brac: I love the color! It is probably more of a summer color but I love this pinky brown shade and personally find it appropriate to wear all year round πŸ™‚ The formula isn’t the best but with a lipbalm it is works well!

IMG_3870_1

Bobbie Brown Shimmer brick in Bronze:Β Again more of a summer time choice but I love using the first 2 strips mixed together as a highlighter. It is subtle yet strong and gives the most elegant highlight on your cheek bones. I do use the darker shades as eyeshadows once in a while. Overall, I love the shimmer bricks! They are versatile and last forever!!

Japonesque Velvet Touch Blush in 04:Β The texture of these blushes is great. The shade 04 is matte and blends beautifully into your skin. I find this shade quite unique and it is perfect for fall. It is a cool toned violet pink which is something I shy away from usually. This color doesn’t look weird on my yellow under tone skin so yay for that πŸ™‚

What have you been loving recently?

Until next time…ciao!

Tosowoong Pure Snail Mask (Skin soothing)

Hello folks! We just did a major move back to the U.S from Asia with a 14th month old and survived! πŸ˜€ The stress of moving, long haul flights and the dry weather of Boston has taken a toll on my skin. That called for a special spa night at home with a face mask and wine !

I had picked up the Tosowoong Pure Snail mask from the website Cosmetic Love a while back and since it said skin soothing decided this is the one for the current lifeless skin situation πŸ˜€

IMG_3866_1
Tosowoong Pure Snail Mask

The sheet mask was nice and sturdy so I doubt it would tear easily. The mask was well soaked with the essence but not dripping in essence like some masks which meant a no mess no fuss application. There was enough essence left in the packet to apply on my neck and hands (I usually apply left over essence from the packet all over my body).

The instructions tell you to put this on for 10 to 20 minutes but I landed up keeping mine on a for atleast 45 minutes since it felt so relaxing!! I found the mask really soothing and relaxing to keep on the face. The essence does not sit on top of the skin so there is no uncomfortable stickiness to deal with while the mask is on and also when you take it off.

My skin looked brighter and felt plump and moisturized after I took off the mask. Like I mentioned, since the essence soaks into the skin there is no overly sticky gross feeling post masking. I had applied the sheet mask at night before bed and found that my skin felt great even the next morning.

Ingredient List

The ingredient list also looked pretty good to me which is why I decided to buy this sheet mask. As you can see there is NiacinamideΒ  and snail secretion pretty high up on the list (yay!).

Overall, I really enjoyed using this mask and plan to repurchase this one in the near future. Have you tried any of the Tosowoong sheet masks?

Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Clay Mousse Mask

Hello folks! We are currently in the process of moving back to the United States and packing is a nightmare! I hope to keep posting at least once a week as I usually do here at the blog. Blogging helps cut off the stress and hassle of real life πŸ™‚ Since we have a super active toddler this time around for a big move, packing is painfully slow. One way to de stress post packing is to put on a face mask!

I picked up the Innisfree Jeju Volcanic clay mousse mask a while back but I started using it only a few months ago. The volcanic clay range from Innisfree is quite popular so I thought I’d try this clay mask. I have dry skin and usually finding a clay mask that does not dry it out further is a challenge. When I went to the Innisfree store, the sales person recommended the mousse version, saying it is less stripping than the original clay mask in the jar packaging.

IMG_3863_1
Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Clay Mousse Mask

The packaging gets an A+ from me. The aerosol can comes with a pump that dispenses the mousse easily. The dispenser also has a plug to prevent any leakage so this is excellent to travel with.

The mousse, as the name suggests is very creamy and you need very little to cover the whole of your face. I have been using this mask once every week for at least 3 months now and I still have quite a bit left in the can. The instructions tell you to leave this face mask on for 15 to 20 minutes.

IMG_3865_1
Ingredient List

The first thing that hits you after you rinse off the mask is your ghost white face! Hah! That is the work of Mr. Titanium Dioxide who figures at number 4 in the ingredient list. I am not sure why they have included it since it does not have any long term benefits that I know of. I usually do not use a cleanser after washing off a face mask, but in this case I do it most of the times just to get rid of that white cast.

The mask does leave your skin feeling soft and smooth. The guys responsible for that are Glycerin and Butylene Glycol who come up on top of the ingredient list. Overall, I do not find the ingredient list all that special (At least for my skin). In fact, as I type this post out I notice there is alcohol in the list ( not good for my dry skin). Th soft smooth feeling goes away in the morning and I have not seen any long term effect from using this mask. My skin is the same as it was before I started using this mask. My all time favorite clay mask is the Coast to Coast red clay mask (REVIEW HERE) which used to be sold at Ulta a while back. Unfortunately, it is very hard to get my hands on it unless I ask someone from Australia to send it to me (Coast to Coast is an Aussie brand).

Overall, this clay mask was Meh for me. I am on the look out for a good gentle clay mask for my dry skin. Any suggestions?

Until next time, ciao!!
