Hello everyone! Every once in a while I do tend to forget packing certain cosmetic items while travelling. I am usually quite organized but every now and then I forget basics like deodorant, lip balm and body lotion. The last time I traveled to Europe I forgot to take my body lotion along and my skin was mad at me! I popped into a drugstore in Spain called Primor and picked up the Cyclax Nutressa Cocoa butter body lotion for 2 Euros!
For the price tag I wasn’t expecting much but I was in for a surprise! The lotion is extremely light weight and non greasy making it ideal for summer time. In fact it was perfect for Spanish weather 🙂
The lotion is tinted but it doesn’t translate to any color on the skin. It has a pleasant smell that isn’t too over powering. The biggest plus for this lotion is that it is non greasy like I mentioned before..it sinks right in to the skin. However I doubt this would be moisturizing enough for dry winters.
Cyclax is a UK brand and the body lotion is made in the UK. I pulled up the ingredients from the Amazon UK website :
As you can see the ingredients are pretty similar to a lot of standard drugstore body lotions with Glycerin, Triglycerides and Cetearyl Alcohol in the top of the ingredient list. Cocoa butter does make an appearance as the 8th ingredient listed so the lotion is very much true to its name ( I have seen lotions where the ‘main’ ingredient is listed at the bottom so this is impressive).
Overall, this is a great body lotion for the 2 Euro price tag. Have you tried anything from the Cyclax brand?
As I mentioned a couple of weeks back I got a chance to try out new beauty brands during my visit home. I found the Baylis and Harding Luxury Hand lotion in my mom’s cabinet. I have not heard of the brand before but a little online research and from the bottle, I understand that the brand is British.
I like the packaging and you do get a whooping 500ml of hand lotion. The lotion smells like real roses, no chemical or synthetic smells. However, the smell does not last. The smell hits you just after dispensing the lotion onto your hand, but once you rub it in, the smell is pretty much gone. I like scented body and hand lotions not just for the moisturization but also for the scent so I was a bit bummed that this did not make my hands smell of roses for a while after application.
The second issue I had with this lotion is the thin milk like consistency of the lotion. You have to be careful when you pump, since you can dispense too much and have it dripping from your hands. Initially, I could not wrap my head around the fact that a luxury hand lotion can be so thin in consistency but I do have to give it credit for doing a good job moisturizing my hands.
The lotion is quickly absorbed and does not leave a greasy after feel, which is great since it is meant for your hands….no one wants greasy hands 🙂
Overall, I think it is a decent lotion. I just wish the scent lasted a bit more!
Today I wanted to share with you all, my thoughts on a body lotion I picked up a few months back from the brand Jason. I was filling up my basket online at feelunique and in order to qualify for a free gift/sample I added this body lotion 😀 to my cart. I think I paid somewhere between 8-10$ for this.
As you can see from the picture of the tube, they do not use parabens, Petrolatum, artificial colors or phthalates in their products. They also have the leaping bunny certification so it is cruelty free too! The picture of the apricot (I love apricots and anything that smells like apricots) and the promise of intense moisture for extremely dry skin sucked me right in. Unfortunately, the lotion was kinda meh 😦
The smell of the lotion was not exactly what I had in mind. It did not smell fresh and light, rather it smelt like shampoo/ conditioner to me. Yes, it was an apricot scent but too chemical/synthetic for my taste. The intense moisture for extremely dry skin claim did not pan out so well either in my case. I used this in the dead of winter and it did not provide moisture that lasted more than 3 hours. The big plus about this lotion is that it is non greasy and light on the skin and I think maybe that is the reason it did not work for me in the winter.
Now that my skin is less dry and more normal, it does seem moisturizing. So I think, this works well for those with normal skin as opposed to extremely dry skin as they claim on the tube.
The tube also claims to brighten skin due to the addition of apricot and almond oils which again I didn’t really notice. If you take a look at the ingredients list the main moisturizing ingredients in the lotion is glycerin and glycerin derivatives. The apricot and almond oil are buried somewhere in the middle of list, which is probably why their brightening effects are not so evident when using this lotion.
Overall, to me this is an average body lotion which did not wow me. I like the non greasy feel and therefore will use it up in the coming warmer months.
Have you tried anything from the brand? Do let me know if I am missing out on anything awesome from them 🙂
So if you like to explore the beauty section at TJ Maxx and Marshalls, chances are you might have come across some not so familiar brands once in awhile. The phytorelax body oil was one such discovery for me. I have used up more than half the bottle and the words Mandorla and phytorelax have faded from the label due to all the love this bottle is getting from moi!
This is basically a perfumed sweet almond oil and I absolutely love it! The perfume added to the pure sweet almond oil is very mild and not over powering in any way in case you flinched when you saw the words perfumed oil ! 😀
The best time to use this oil is right after you step out of the shower. It has a very light consistency and hence absorbs really fast when applied on the skin. It does take a minute or 2 for it to completely absorb into the skin and after that you are well moisturized without any greasy/sticky feeling 🙂 I also like that the bottle comes with a spray pump making it easier to dispense the oil onto your palm. I do find it really relaxing working this oil into my skin and I guess this can be used a massage oil as well.
The ingredient list as seen above is short and simple as it should be! The main ingredient is of course the sweet almond oil. BHT and BHA are antioxidants which are commonly used to preserve oils and food.
The only negative about this product is that its not easily available. I bought this bottle at Marshalls for around 8$ which I think is a steal. Sadly, I don’t see it so often at TJ Maxx/Marshalls and might have to stock up when I see it there the next time. I did however find it on amazon for 25$ (ouch!) if you badly want to try it.
Since the last couple of posts on the blog have been makeup related I thought I’d review a body lotion I’ve been testing out for the last 2 months for a change! I was excited to receive a full size of the Vaseline Intensive care advanced repair lotion from Influenster just as winter was rolling in. After using this for 2 months I am not really as thrilled as I was when I first got it 😐
Lets first discuss the good stuff..Its fragrance free! I generally like to use mildly fragranced body products but I know lots of people are sensitive to fragrances in their personal care products so its great to see that this is fragrance free. I hear that this is a reformulated version of their original fragrance free intensive care line which I never tried ( I was bought up in a family that loved Nivea more than anything!)
The lotion claims to be non greasy and it isn’t, BUT it doesn’t sink into your skin either! When you apply this on your skin, it feels powdery smooth and silicony ..and tacky! Basically this stuff just adds a layer to your skin and sits on top and I don’t like body lotions to function that way! In fact, I am almost tempted to try this as a primer for foundation due to the smooth layer it forms on top of the skin!! 😛
I have extremely dry skin..especially in the colder months and this did not do any intensive healing or repairing for sure! It only helped prevent further drying for the time period it formed the layer ( the layer kind of wears off after a few hours). A look at the ingredient list also confirm there is no healing or skin repair ingredients in the lotion.
It would have been great to see some Shea butter or Vitamin E in there instead of the very basic age old mix of glycerin, mineral oil and petrolatum! At least then, the repair and intensive care claims stand a chance!
My final grouse with this product is the packaging. Its so difficult to squeeze the product out of the bottle! You need to use both hands and this was the case from day 1 when the bottle was full.
There are so many basic drugstore body lotions which performs equally or better. So its okay if you skip this one, you aren’t missing anything phenomenal!
If you’ve been following this series on my blog you might already know how exciting this series is for me and hopefully your enjoying it as much as I am ! 🙂 Today is the 3rd installment of the around the world via beauty products series and if you would like to check out the past brands and places featured do check out the category around the world via beauty on the side bar of the blog. Today we are travelling to lovely Ireland! The company Fragrances of Ireland is an independent perfume house whose products are inspired by the beauty and nature of Ireland. One of their core fragrances is called Inis which means island in Irish and it is inspired by the western coast of Ireland. Lets take a look at this collection shall we? 😀
I like the simple clean packaging which is very representative of what the Inis line stands for..the sea, the beach, coolness and clear water. In this post I will be sharing my views on 3 products from this line 🙂
Inis, the energy of the sea cologne spray
This is the core product of this line and it is described as being unisex. I like the clean scent of Inis however I like the smell of this more on my husband than on myself 😀 This is the type of scent he usually gravitates to.. clean fresh smelling scents which are not too woody or musky. The cologne comes with a little booklet which explains the scent really well. Here is the description for those of you who are perfume connoisseurs:
Top Notes: Sparkling, diffusive citrus notes of Sicilian lemon, Bergamont, Neroli and traces of marine notes
Middle notes: Muguet (lilly of the valley) and Geranium
Bottom notes: Enriching and deepening spice notes of cloves and nutmeg combined with sandalwood, oakmoss and musk
The top notes I detect the most is the smell of Neroli and bergamont. The top notes as you might have noticed are all clean and light smelling. You can very distinctively detect the lilly of the valley middle notes after a point of time. I am no expert in perfumery, but I do know that the way the different notes play out depends on your body core temperature and hence you can detect subtle differences in how it smells on various people.
The cologne spray comes in a frosty bottle and the name Inis is etched on to the bottle. I am not a fan of the cap of this bottle, which is hard to pull out sometimes! Overall, I like this cologne on my husband! It does not disappear at the end of the day and it is subtle enough to wear to work. Does this remind me of the sea? …it does in some ways..the coolness of the scent, the calming and the feel good feeling you get after sniffing it do remind you of a day at the beach or on a boat at sea.
Inis, the energy of the sea body lotion
This is the body lotion with the same scent as the cologne. However, I feel that the middle notes are more prominent when you apply the body lotion on your skin. The body lotion primarily comprises of triglycerides, glycerin and shea butter to do the job of moisturizing. The other non prominent but good for the skin ingredients present include fucus vesiculosus extract and laminaria digitata extract (seaweed extracts).
The body lotion is not very heavy or greasy feeling on the skin so it is perfect for the summer months or if your looking for a fast absorbing body lotion.
Inis, the energy of the sea nourishing hand cream
This is a 20% shea butter hand cream and I absolutely love this! It is nice, creamy and has just the right hint of the fragrance making it an ideal hand cream. No ones likes an over powering scent to their hand cream. The mild classic scent of Inis makes this quite the refreshing hand cream too!
This is a fast absorbing but deep conditioning hand cream with no greasy after feel like most other hand creams which have a high proportion of shea butter in them. What makes this extra special is of course the light subtle clean scent 🙂
Hope you guys enjoyed this post! Frangrances of Ireland has several other collections which are all inspired by Ireland so if your in the mood to experience Ireland from the comfort of your home do check out what else they have to offer; www.fragrancesofireland.com
Until next time, ciao!!

Now that it is officially Fall, I thought I’d talk about a body lotion that is pretty much permanently there by my night stand but comes in handy mostly during the cooler fall months. The Neutrogena moisture wrap body lotion is a Norwegian formula which can heal uncomfortable dry skin according to the bottle. Although the marketing seems to target folks looking for a body lotion to use in the winter, I find this very comfortable to use all year around but especially during fall!
I am the sort of person who needs at least 3 different body butters/lotions around at any given time! I love to use many different body products in rotation so that I have multiple scents and textures to play with 🙂 This particular lotion however is always around. It is not only affordable but very effective!
I love to use this immediately after a shower and it absorbs really quickly into the skin and is not greasy at all in my opinion.Post application, my skin is soft and smooth! I find this lotion light weight enough to use during the summer months and intensive enough for fall and spring. However in the winters, when it gets particularly harsh (New England winters!), I do need to use something else which is more moisture intensive.
The smell of this lotion is awesome! I dunno how to describe it but its a light and clean scent which is neither too floral or musky. It also linger around lightly without being over bearing for an hour or so after application.
A look at the ingredient list will confirm that this lotion doesn’t have any fancy ingredients. It is a basic lotion with most of the moisturizing aspects being taken care of by simple ingredients like glycerin, glycerides, octyldodecanol and petrolatum.
However, this does contain dimethicones and parabens, so if you are avoiding these ingredients this lotion might not work for you.
In case your shopping around this fall for an affordable and effective body lotion that smells amazing do check this out! If you have used this lotion let me know in the comments why you like it so much/ don’t like it 🙂
