H &M High Impact Eye color in Kobai Azalea

Hello folks!!

So the single eyeshadow in the shade Kobai Azalea is the second product I have tried so far from the H &M beauty section and I must say I am pretty impressed with the beauty line already. Currently the beauty world is quite obsessed with dark cranberry, red, magenta type eyeshadow shades and if you are on a budget and looking to try out a shade in this family range…let me introduce you to Kobai Azalea…..

The shade Kobai Azalea is a very scary intense pinky red shade in the pan. I picked this up initially thinking if I don’t like it as an eyeshadow I’ll try it out as a blush! Guess what..it works great as both an eyeshadow and a blush πŸ˜€

Look at that color! Kobai Azalea

One of the most discussed palettes in the beauty world right now is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette. Now, I do not own this palette but to me this shade looks a lot like Venetian red /Love letter in the pan and swatched.

Kobai Azalea is matte and though the texture of the shadow is not very silky, it is not very chalky either. The shadow looks lovely in the crease and blends effortlessly. I feel that I was able to use this as a blush as well all because of how easily bendable this shadow is! I did not notice any fading after wearing this shadow for around 9 hours.

The shadow is very build able although I have not tried packing this color to its maximum intensity Β on my lids..primarily since I am not a colorful eye shadow girl most of the time πŸ™‚ For me this is a great crease shade and I can see myself reaching for this more in the coming fall months.

Overall, this is another great beauty product find for me from H&M. The eyeshadow has great staying power, is blendable and pigmented! The packaging is quite okay as well.

I plan to pick up more items H&M beauty soon! Tell me… what are your favorite items from the line?

Until next time, ciao!!

Tarina Tarantino Jewel Shadow Palette in Dreamy

Hello folks!

Tarina Tarantino is a famous jewelry designer who had a few years ago partnered with Sephora and bought out her own line of makeup. Sadly, they are no longer available at Sephora but on the bright side, they can be still purchased on her website and also on Hautelook.

Sometime last year I picked up the Jewel Shadow palette in Dreamy when her products were on Hautelook. I had also picked up her lipstick which I reviewed HERE a while back! Β I will let the cat out of the bag right now itself..these shadows have one of the best formulas I have tried πŸ™‚

The packaging is very luxe. The gun metal compact has a nice weight to it and the design is so sleek and stylish, I would never think twice about whipping this out of my bag in public to touch up πŸ˜€ The brown hologram is also a nice touch. I really like the outer box of the compact too which is why I still have it with me!

The palette houses 5 beautiful shades. I would describe this palette as being a neutral palette with a pop of color. 4 out of the 5 shadows are satin shimmer shades, with the dark brown shadow at the bottom of the quad being more of a glitter shadow. If you are a lover of matte shadows, this quad sadly may not be for you. The standout shadow in this palette is of course the beautiful burnt orange copper shade!

The shadows are smooth and glide on the skin like butter! They are extremely pigmented too! Above are swatches of the 5 shadows in this palette obtained with just 1 swipe of a brush. The glitter shade has some fallout but not so much so that it is a deal breaker. I have used these shadows with and without a primer and they have excellent longevity. They look really fresh even at the end of a 12 hour day when used with a primer. I have used these shadows once without a primer and they did not fade even after 8 to 10 hours of wear!

Overall, I love everything about this palette – colors, the texture, the performance, pigmentation, packaging..everything!!

The only con/negative about this palette is that it is not very easily available. I like to wait till they come up on hautelook to get them at really great prices πŸ™‚

Have you tried anything from the Tarina Tarantino line?

Until next time…ciao!!

Jewelry Haul :)

Hello folks!

Today I thought do something a bit different on the blog by showing you guys some of the jewelry items I picked up this summer while out shopping with mom πŸ™‚

I don’t wear a lot of chunky jewelry..my preference leans more towards simple stuff you can wear anywhere..to the grocery store and to work πŸ˜€

Rose gold chains
Rose gold chains

I’ve got a fascination for all things rose gold (Laptops and phones included ) and I could not pass up on these guys which were on sale at one of the local stores where my folks are based. The chain with the cubes is a favorite..it looks really nice when worn with a white outfit in particular. The other chain with the 3 different rings is a common pattern, but I picked it up since I don’t own anything like it.

My first 'big ' piece of jewelry :D

So remember what I said about me liking simple jewelry at the beginning of this post…well I decided to try out something which is out of my comfort zone πŸ™‚ The above piece is a dull gold color which, resembles battle armor 😐 according to the husband ! I have yet to wear this outside my house..he he ..will try to wear it out soon.

My love affair with enamel jewelry Β started when I first laid my eyes upon some exquisite pieces from the Austrian jewelry company called Freywille. Check out their website HERE to see for your self their lovely enamel art work on 18K gold jewelry. The above pendant and earrings are not 18k gold nor are they from Freywille but they look equally pretty and I got them on sale πŸ˜‰ …so I am a very happy girl!

Gun metal anyone?
Gun metal anyone?

I picked up this gun metal chain and earrings set solely because of the orange stones! The orange stones and the gun metal go so well together and look great when worn with outfits which are dark in color.

I am pretty happy with my haul, especially since it has been a while since I picked up any jewelry pieces. Hope you all enjoyed seeing these pieces! What have you guys been shopping for lately?

Until next time…ciao!!

Cool tone eyes ~ Purple and Silver !

Hello folks!

I am not sure how many of you guys remember the 2014 holiday eyeshadow palette from Smashbox called the Smashbox on the rocks photo op luxe palette. I hear that they are popping up at Nordstrom Rack at a really awesome price! I had purchased the palette during the holiday time at full price and even then I had felt that it was value for money. In case you missed out the first time round, then this is your chance to get it really cheap πŸ™‚ For more details on the palette check out my REVIEW.

This purple and silver eyelook was done using the On The Rocks Luxe Palette. (Excuse the wild brows! I am growing them out to get them shaped better!)

Again, as with most eye looks I do its nothing complicated πŸ˜€

I used the following shades:

Shades used from the Smashbox Palette

I applied the silver shade called Asteroid all over the lid. This was followed by blending the shade Lilac into the crease. I added a little bit of purple mist into the crease and outer corner of the eye but made sure it did not go beyond the Lilac shade in the crease. Purple Mist is a really nice shade with some gold flecks in it (unfortunately the camera is not able to pick it up). I used the shade lavender sparingly as a brow bone highlight.

Hope your all having a great summer!

Until next time…ciao!!

Rimmel Showoff Lip Lacquer in Nova

Hello everyone!!

Happy Sunday! As you all may be aware, liquid lipsticks are ‘in’ right now with the matte versions being most popular. Rimmel did come out with their non glossy velvet lacquers a couple of months ago and before testing those out I thought I’d give the original lip lacquer a try! I picked up the showoff lip lacquer in the shade Nova.

Rimmel Showoff Lip Laquer in Nova
Rimmel Showoff Lip Lacquer in Nova

The lip lacquer comes housed in a nice sturdy round tube. The bottom part of the tube is supposed to indicate the color of the lip lacquer, unfortunately I didn’t find it to be that accurate. Under store lighting, the pink indicated on the tube looked deeper than the actual pink color of the lip product inside. The shade Nova is a light milky pink with blue tones. Like I said in the store, looking at the tube I didn’t think it would be blue based (Generally blue based pinks don’t look nice on me!)

I really like the applicator which is like the traditional doe foot but with a dip/well to pick up product and to hug the lips better when applying. I have mostly seen this kind of an applicator in higher end lip glosses and liquid lipsticks, so it was a nice surprise to find it in a drugstore product!

The applicator
The applicator

First lets talk about all the pros! I really like how pigmented the lip lacquer is! In a single swipe I was able to get a nice opaque coat on the lips. The dip in the applicator is able to pick up the right amount of product needed to cover the lips in 1 swipe from the tube. This also feels really comfy on the lips! I did not experience any stickiness nor did my lips feel dry as the day went by. Overall it feels light on the lips and you tend to forget it is even there!

Single swipe swatch and application on the lips
Single swipe swatch and application on the lips

I have not tried building up the color on my lips since I am pretty happy the full opaqueness achieved with a single swipe. I do suppose it can get a bit gooey if over applied. The staying power is quite decent. It fades away in a non patchy way so it isn’t too high maintenance πŸ™‚

The lip lacquer has a synthetic fruity smell which is really strong when you apply it. The first time I almost gagged at the smell since I generally hate such scents. I still haven’t gotten past the scent which is why I don’t reach for this that often although it looks nice once applied on the lips. However this is not the breaking point for me with this product, its actually the ugly white ring it leaves around your mouth after a couple of hours! I tried to see if applying less of the lacquer will help prevent that ring but sadly it does not 😦

These 2 issues stop me from using the Rimmel lip lacquer often, but if you can get past these 2 issues it is a really nice product that is budget friendly too!

Have a great Sunday!!

Until next time…ciao!

Tarina Tarentino Conditioning Lip Sheen in Floriculture

Hello folks!!

In case your curious to know what my favorite lipstick formula is at the moment Β ..this is the post you got to read!! πŸ˜€ Tarina Tarentino is a brand which was available at Sephora a couple of years ago and now they are available online at their website and at Hautelook as far as I know. I purchased this lip sheen on Hautelook a couple of months ago and fell in love with the formula!

Before we discuss how fantastic the formula is, let us take a moment to admire the packaging ;). The lipstick is housed in a gun metal tube with crystals adorning the lid. I had a hard time trying to take a decent photograph of the tube due to the shinny metallic tube reflecting light! The tube has a heavy luxury feel to it and is definitely not made of cheap thin plastic. yay!

Conditioning lip sheen in Floriculture

The shade I picked up is called Floriculture and it is pretty dark looking in the tube. It looks like a violet based dark red. This was unexpected since online it didn’t look so dark and I was a bit apprehensive about the color when I first got it in the mail. Upon application though, I liked the look of it on my lips! It didn’t look vampy and I could easily wear it to work.

More than the color, what I really loved about the lip sheen is the formula. It feels so comfortable on the lips! It was moisturizing (after all they do call it a conditioning lip sheen!) and it did not dry my lips out throughout the day like some ‘moisturizing’ lip products do. Β It glides on like a balm and leaves a shiny finish on the lips which fades as the day goes by. The color payoff is just right in my opinion, its not too sheer nor is it opaque.

Swatches of the Tarina Tarentino lip sheen in Floriculture

The color can be built to your liking which is great since there are days when I want slightly darker purple based red lips :D! With a single swipe as shown in the picture you get a lovely subdued color on your lips.

The staying power of this lipstick as with most moisturizing formulas, isn’t comparable with their matte lipstick cousins! I can easily get 4 hours of wear with some drinking and very light eating. I don’t mind reapplying this lipstick since I treat it a bit like a lip balm!

The original price for these guys is around 22$Β (from their website) but if you purchase them on hautelook you can get them way cheaper. I think I paid 11$ for this on hautelook though I am not sure since it was a while back.

If I have convinced you to purchase this..then good news! I heard that Tarina Tarentino products are going to be on hautelook today (04/28/2015)!! So head over and try the lip sheen πŸ˜‰ you can thank me later !! πŸ˜€

Until next time…ciao!!!

The Anna Sui Eye Color Palette

Hello everyone!

Hope your all having a great week so far! Today lets take a look at an eyeshadow palette from the brand Anna Sui. Anna Sui is a well known fashion designer who also has a makeup line known for cutesy and unconventional packaging. Currently I’m on a hunt for new brands to try out so I thought I’ll try something from her makeup line πŸ™‚

The Anna Sui Eye Color Palette
The Anna Sui Eye Color Palette

Anna Sui makeup is available online at Beauty.com. I’m not aware of other places in the US where her makeup is sold. I first spotted this palette on beauty.com for 42$ however when I looked around a bit I found the palette on sale (21$) at a UK based website called FeelUnique.com. Since it was 50% off I took the plunge and made my first ever international makeup order πŸ˜€ . Unfortunately, the palette is currently out of stock at feelunique and the sale is over as well 😦 but its still available at beauty.com for full price.

The palette has cardboard packaging but I do find it sturdy. I traveled with this palette last weekend and there were no issues. The magnetic closure is strong enough to prevent it from opening up. As you can see from the picture above the palette comes with roses printed on it..I’m not sure if everyone is going to like it..what do you think? Is it tacky or cute/vintage looking? I’m kind of indifferent to it..I don’t mind it but don’t love it either πŸ™‚

Inside the palette
Inside the palette

The palette has 10 eyeshadows in total. If your a matte shadow lover, this might not be your cup of tea since there are zero matte shades in here. There is a frosty highlight shade, 3 shadows which have a satin finish, 4 metallic type of shadows and 2 shades with glitter in them.

I was kind of surprised that there was no mirror! Considering the original price point of this palette (42$) I would expect a mirror to be included. Β The palette comes with a dual ended applicator which has a brush on one side and a sponge tip on the other. I found this to be rather cheap and not really usable.

A closer look at the shadows
A closer look at the shadows

The eyeshadows in this palette do not have individual names/numbers. The shades look very spring appropriate to me and one of the reasons why I was drawn to it is because I don’t have any palette with this sort of a color scheme in my collection. The eyeshadows have a rose scent to them..I will never understand why makeup companies do that! Fortunately, the smell isn’t detectable once you apply these on your lids.

The shades look so pretty in the pan but unfortunately they are pretty sheer when applied on the skin, especially the top row of shadows. Take a look at the swatches and you’ll understand what I’m talking about!

Swatches!
Swatches! (swatched using a brush)

Although I was initially disappointed with the top row of shadows, I am Β slowly liking them for everyday toned down looks. The swatches are without primer and with the help of a primer they do tend to show up a bit more. I am extremely pleased with the pigmentation of the bottom row of shadows. All in all you can make the palette work.

I do have to warn you though…they are extremely powdery and hence need to be picked up gently with your brush (no sticking in your brush in a hurry!) The metallic shades apply beautifully but with the 2 glittery shades (the olive green and black) I had a ton of fall out to deal with! even with a primer which is a bummer 😦

Overall, I think this palette is not worth 42$. I rather buy a Lorac pro palette for that money! But if like me you fell in love with shades then I suggest you wait for a discount coupon/sale to purchase this palette. I am glad I paid only 21$ since I personally feel its worth only that much if not less.

Have you tried any Anna Sui products lately?

Until next time…ciao!!
