Clio Art Highlighter in Pearl White

I love pretty packaging. That sure can be a problem sometimes especially when shopping for makeup! I fell for this highlighter from Clio because of how beautiful the compact looks. Adding more pretty things to your makeup drawer is okay right..especially if it is a highlighter πŸ˜‰

Clio Art Highlighter

The compact is plastic but looks and feels sturdy. The art work is printed on it and also on the outer box. I didn’t have the heart to throw away the outer box since the print looks like a water color painting.

There are 3 shades of this highlighter available. 01 pearl white is the one I picked up. The other 2 shades are gold toned and rosy toned. Having a medium color skin tone, I kind of shy away from white based highlighter since they can look frosty on my skin coloring. I decided to take a chance with this one and am happy I did!

As you can see it is a baked product and gives a lovely sheen to the skin. It is not a chunky highlighter nor is it the very intense type of highlighter people seem to like these days. This is a soft and subtle highlighter like the Bobbie brown shimmer bricks can be. It looks lovely when buffed into the skin.

The compact comes with a nice mirror and also a brush which feels really nice. I have not used the brush but I am sure it will work fine in a pinch.

Swatch of 01 Pearl White

As you can see, this highlighter lets your skin peak thru a bit when it is buffed into the skin ( I swatched the highlighter with a brush) and that makes it look a bit more natural. I love the glow it imparts and it stays put all day too.

Overall, I am extremely happy to own this highlighter. I might just go ahead and pick up the other shades too some time soon πŸ˜€

Until next time, ciao!!!

Moonlab Gold Snail Vital up Essential Cream

Hello folks!

Recently I dived into K Beauty and found out I love all things snail πŸ™‚ I tried out a trial sample of the It’s Skin Prestige Cream d’ escargot which was amazing for my skin. I just couldn’t bring myself to bite the bullet and buy the full size bottle which costs around 65$. There are so many snail creams out there, what if I find one that works just as well but is cheaper?

So, off I go to Amazon to check the bazillion snail creams they have there and stumbled upon the Moonlab Gold Snail Vital up Essential Cream. It was selling at a price of 10$ so I decided to see if they really have snail filtrate and gold in there. I found out that this cream was being sold for around 88 dollars in Singapore (Thanks Google)! So this had to be a fake one right? Nope! Turns out that the seller is the actual company that makes these creams so this was not a knock off. Maybe the company is doing some sort of promotional price and since it was only 10 bucks I decided to buy it.

A few days later I got the cream in the mail. The box and the cream tub looked nice and luxe. I liked the silver lettering on the coffee maroon lid. The cream came with a nice spatula too. My first impressions were immediately dampened when I saw the expiration date on the outer box. The cream was all set to expire in 10 days! You get what you pay for πŸ˜› That was the reason this guy was only 10 bucks.

So I decided to test the cream out for 10 days and another 10 days post expiration. The ingredient list looked real good which was one of the reasons I got it. Take a look.

Ingredient List

It has Sodium Hyaluronate, Snail filtrate, glycerin, niacin amide…. all as the first couple of ingredients. This is the stuff my dry skin loves.

The cream has a nice pleasant smell. I can’t describe it..its not overly floral but it is a very faint floral scent which is not over powering. The texture of the cream is a bit stringy compared to the the It’s Skin Prestige Creme d’ Escargot snail cream. However, it feels really nice when applied to the skin. The cream sinks right in and my skin did feel moisturized the next day morning.

IMG_3876_1
Slightly stringy with gold flecks best describes the cream!

I am not sure if those gold bits did anything for my skin. I used to find small specks of it on my face sometimes..other than look like I went for a late night craft lesson I doubt it did anything.

Overall, it was a decent moisturizer. But was it amazing..nah. I did not find my skin looking any brighter or radiant. It did not do anything for my blemishes, redness, dullness etc. I don’t see myself re purchasing this one again ( especially not if they sell old stock that expires in 10 days). There are so many snail creams out there for me to try!

Have you tried the Moonlab Snail cream? or any of their other products?

Until next time, ciao!!

Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Clay Mousse Mask

Hello folks! We are currently in the process of moving back to the United States and packing is a nightmare! I hope to keep posting at least once a week as I usually do here at the blog. Blogging helps cut off the stress and hassle of real life πŸ™‚ Since we have a super active toddler this time around for a big move, packing is painfully slow. One way to de stress post packing is to put on a face mask!

I picked up the Innisfree Jeju Volcanic clay mousse mask a while back but I started using it only a few months ago. The volcanic clay range from Innisfree is quite popular so I thought I’d try this clay mask. I have dry skin and usually finding a clay mask that does not dry it out further is a challenge. When I went to the Innisfree store, the sales person recommended the mousse version, saying it is less stripping than the original clay mask in the jar packaging.

Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Clay Mousse Mask

The packaging gets an A+ from me. The aerosol can comes with a pump that dispenses the mousse easily. The dispenser also has a plug to prevent any leakage so this is excellent to travel with.

The mousse, as the name suggests is very creamy and you need very little to cover the whole of your face. I have been using this mask once every week for at least 3 months now and I still have quite a bit left in the can. The instructions tell you to leave this face mask on for 15 to 20 minutes.

Ingredient List

The first thing that hits you after you rinse off the mask is your ghost white face! Hah! That is the work of Mr. Titanium Dioxide who figures at number 4 in the ingredient list. I am not sure why they have included it since it does not have any long term benefits that I know of. I usually do not use a cleanser after washing off a face mask, but in this case I do it most of the times just to get rid of that white cast.

The mask does leave your skin feeling soft and smooth. The guys responsible for that are Glycerin and Butylene Glycol who come up on top of the ingredient list. Overall, I do not find the ingredient list all that special (At least for my skin). In fact, as I type this post out I notice there is alcohol in the list ( not good for my dry skin). Th soft smooth feeling goes away in the morning and I have not seen any long term effect from using this mask. My skin is the same as it was before I started using this mask. My all time favorite clay mask is the Coast to Coast red clay mask (REVIEW HERE) which used to be sold at Ulta a while back. Unfortunately, it is very hard to get my hands on it unless I ask someone from Australia to send it to me (Coast to Coast is an Aussie brand).

Overall, this clay mask was Meh for me. I am on the look out for a good gentle clay mask for my dry skin. Any suggestions?

Until next time, ciao!!

Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze Mask- Shea Butter

Hello folks! By now I am guessing most regular readers of the blog know I have dry skin and I am always looking for hydrating products. I have not tried too many sheet masks and recently decided to look into them a bit more seriously. I picked up the Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze Mask in Shea Butter from the Innisfree store I found during one of my travels a while back. The shop assistant recommended this one for dry skin so here we are!

IMG_3858_1
Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze mask in Shea Butter

The packet like most sheet masks felt heavy and opening it up, I found a well soaked sheet mask. The liquid is quite thick and is best described as white color lotion. The material of the mask felt quite sturdy at first when I took it out of the packet, however it did tear while I was removing the mask after I was done. The mask was not too messy to put on, and was quite big! The instructions said to put it on for 10 to 20 minutes after cleansing and toning your skin.

The mask unfortunately has a baby powder smell which I hate. Even the L’occitaine Shea face cream I tried had the same baby powder smell. I wonder why all things Shea have to smell that way 😦

Removing the face mask after 20 minutes, my face looked like it was slathered in white lotion (with the smell, it almost felt like baby lotion on my face). They say in the instructions to gently tap the skin to absorb the excess stuff. I kept the lotion on for a good 40 minutes beyond which I could not tolerate the slimy feel. It became increasingly sticky and my face felt like it was covered in sticky sweat. After washing off the excess, my skin did feel soft and moisturized but nothing too amazing to go thru that awful sticky feeling.

Overall, it is a decent face mask and good for some hydration once in a while if you can tolerate the sticky feel. I most probably will not purchase this one again since I am not a fan of the smell nor that sticky feeling.

What are your favorite face sheet masks?

Until next time, ciao!!

Holika Holika Good Cera Lip Oil Stick

Hello folks! A while back I had posted about a K beauty Haul from the website Cosmetic Love (POSTED HERE). I had picked up some fun stuff to try along with a lip balm from Holika Holika. This is my first time trying a K beauty lip balm and unfortunately I wasn’t that impressed.

IMG_3843_1
Holika Holika Good Cera Lip oil Stick

After all, Korean skincare is all about hydration and I expected this to give me nice hydrated juicy lips. I have dry lips almost all year round. This is mostly due to the dry weather conditions where I live ( my lips are happy when I visit my parents in tropical paradise). I no longer have the outer box of the lip balm but from the description given on the Holika Holika European site, this lip balm does not contain artificial colors, artificial flavors, mineral oil, triethanolamine, talc, petrolatum and benzophenone. It does contain, as you probably guessed, Ceramides! Ceramides are a fantastic skincare ingredient.. I have done a whole blog post on it (HERE). This was the reason why I picked this lip balm out of a bazillion ones I saw on the Cosmetic Love website. So I was a bit bummed when it turned out to be like any other regular lip balm. Maybe I put too much pressure on the poor lip balm what with fancy ceramide plastered on his ingredient list! Here is a full ingredient list below:

Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Diisostearyl Malate, Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, Octyldodecanol, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Microcrystalline Wax, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Ceresin, Meadowfoam Delta-Lactone, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Ozokerite, Paraffin, Jojoba Esters, Polyethylene, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Tribehenin, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Trihydroxystearin, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot)fruit Oil, Camellia Sinensis Seed Oil, Camellia Japonica Seed Oil, Macadamia Integrifolia Seed Oil, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Tocopherol, Dehydroacetic Acid, Ceramide NP, Monascus Extract, Water, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Butylene Glycol, Alteromonas Ferment Filtrate, Hydrogenated Lecithin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Ceramide NP, Bacillus Ferment, Ceramide AP, Ceramide EOP

I tried this as an overnight lip mask and also wore it around the house during the day. As an overnight lip treatment it was meh..it just sat on top of my lips and didn’t do much. Using it as a regular lip balm kept my lips protected from the dry weather but it did not do much in terms of actually hydrating them or making my lips soft. It works well under lipstick so I will mostly be using it for that purpose.

I actually like the design of the tube..it is sleek and the shape of the lip balm bullet is also ergonomic.

IMG_3844_1
Nice packaging!

The texture and faint smell of this lip balm reminds me of Nivea lip balm. Nivea lip balm = childhood memories for me! I had tons of them growing up..I had the pink tinted one, some sparkly ones, the plain no nonsense blue one., the yellow one..I had every type of lip balm they released back in the day!! This one reminds me strongly of the Nivea Blue one..the unscented no nonsense one πŸ˜€

Overall, this is not a bad lip balm..just don’t have very high expectations like I did πŸ˜€

Until next time, ciao!!!

K Beauty haul from Cosmetic Love

Hello folks! I have been MIA for 3 weeks and it feels good to be back! A haul post seems like the right way to get back into blogging πŸ˜€

For the last couple of years the Western beauty world has been inundated with so many releases that I can hardly keep up anymore! I kind of started feeling a bit uninspired with a lot of the new releases. But I still wanted to satisfy my makeup shopping cravings πŸ˜‰ and that is when I finally took the plunge into the K beauty world. I have bought makeup products from Korean brands almost 10 years ago when I lived in Singapore so it felt good to sort of reconnect with the K beauty world.

I found the website Cosmetic Love and liked the layout, the ease of navigation and the prices. So I did a trial order first where I purchased a highlighter. I kind of forgot about the website for a while and then went back to place a bigger orderΒ  from Cosmetic Love in April. The prices were fantastic, unfortunately they have increased their shipping prices and that kind of kills the fun of getting these goodies at a low price. The shipping cost is calculated by weight and it can add up real quick!!!

I decided to place an order anyway and see how it goes..unfortunately for me the heaviest item in my order was out of stock and they refunded only the cost of the item..so I landed up paying a heavy shipping price for small items! A major bummer!!

So here below I will share the items I did get from my order.

IMG_3825_1
K beauty Haul from Cosmetic Love
  • Clio Art Highlighter: This was the ‘test’ order I placed with them initially to see how good their services were. Technically not part of this particular haul but thought I’d include it in the picture anyway. This is an awesome highlighter..review coming soon πŸ˜‰
  • Tony Moly Panda’s Dream Clear Compact in Shade 02: I have not tried this yet but the packaging is so cute..I love Pandas..who doesn’t right?
  • Holika Holika Holi Pop Velvet Lip Pencil: I am really impressed by this Lip Pencil. Again full review coming up soon!
  • Holika Holika Good Cera Lip Balm: It is ok. I didn’t find it mind blowing.
  • Tosowoong BB Cream: I have not yet tried this but find it intriguing since it is supposed to adjust to your coloring and is available in only a single shade. It costs only 2$!
  • Tosowoong Sheet masks: I have not yet tried these but saw some good reviews. Have you tried these sheet masks?
  • It’s Skin Prestige Creme d’ Escargot samples: Snail Cream..I have been wanting to try Snail products for the longest time πŸ˜€ Cosmetic Love sells samples of skin care products which is awesome since you can test out if they work for you or not before committing to a full size.

Overall, I think the website is okay except for their shipping charges! If you are able to balance out the weight of your products to pay the minimal shipping charges then give the website a try (and hope that the items you order aren’t out of stock). I am tempted to order more Korean Beauty products. Do you have any website recommendations?

Until next time, Ciao!!

My Scheming Hot Spring Water Sheet Mask Review

Hello folks!

The weather here is so dry that my already dry skin looks even more parched than usual. My usual intense moisturizer from Caudalie was starting to give up on fighting the extreme dryness of my skin, so I thought its time to indulge in some masks and serums.

Korean beauty has taken the world by storm and I am currently enjoying dabbling in it. Sheet masks are a K beauty staple and I decided to try a few out. The My Scheming brand sheet mask isn’t technically K beauty since it is made in Taiwan but you can find it at some of the online retailers selling K beauty items. This mask was given to me by my sister in law who loves it so I am not sure where exactly she purchased it from.

My scheming hot spring water Sheet Mask

The sheet mask was totally soaked in the serum, in fact it was so saturated that it was dripping all over the place the moment I took it out of the packet. All that excess drippage eventually landed on my neck and decollete so I am not going to complain too much about that πŸ˜‰ but do proceed with caution as you take the mask out and put it on your face.

The mask is made of a very thin material and the backing foil helps you to place it nicely on your face without tearing the actual mask. The essence or the serum of this mask is quite sticky so the dripping can be a bit annoying when you are trying to fit the mask properly on your face.

I liked the refreshing sensation that this mask instantly provides and a big plus for not stinging my skin..that was my number 1 concern about the mask since I do have sensitive skin. I had the mask on for about 30 minutes and my skin felt plumped up and hydrated once I was done! πŸ™‚

Ingredient list

Now the ingredient list is not all that spectacular, but I am happy to see glycerin and niacinamide in the top half of the list. I was quite concerned about using this mask initially since butylene glycol is the 3rd ingredient. It can be irritating for some people with sensitive skin. Luckily I did not experience any negative skin reactions after using the mask.

I am guessing that the water mentioned in the ingredient list is actually spring water..since that was the whole USP of this mask!! But they do not specify that in the list which is interesting!!!

The only negative about this mask is the smell. It does have a slight chemical scent to it and the stickiness can be quite annoying to deal with too!!

Have you tried this mask? What is your favorite sheet mask?

Until next time…ciao!!
