I love a good nude lipstick and when I saw that Essence had come out with a range of nude lipsticks I was ecstatic! Essence always does a good job with their lip products so I was pretty sure from the get go that these would be good. Thankfully I was not wrong 🙂 I picked up 2 shades from the lipstick range and also picked up a gloss from their nude pumping gloss line.
The this is nude lipstick range comes in 6 shades ranging from a peachy pink to dark burgundy brown shades to cater to various skintones. I picked up the shade 02 Happy which is a nice warm pink and also the shade 06 Real which is a brown based red. I got the shade 06 Big Bang from their line of glosses.
The lipsticks have a matte formula but they are really creamy at the same time making it very comfortable to wear. They glide on very smoothly and give a nice coat of opaque color on the lips. The only downside of this formula is that it is not very long lasting on the lips…but that is a trade off I don’t mind if it means the formula is more comfortable to wear on the lips.
I am also not a big fan of the scent. These lipsticks are heavily fragranced and smell like a fruity floral cocktail. The gloss is also perfumed to death. I wish Essence would tone that down or just do away with fragrances in lip products.
As you can see from the swatches, the shades are beautiful. I really like the gloss color too..it is nothing special but a nice warm pink gloss that is fuss free to apply. The gloss claims to be a plumping gloss but I didn’t notice any plumping effect. It feels very cool and tingly on application that is all there is.
Otherwise the gloss formula is quite nice! It is not too thick and goopy and although it has some stickiness it wasn’t overtly sticky like some other I have tried in the recent past.
Overall, these are some really nice lip products from Essence and is worth the money in my opinion. They all cost less than 5$ and that is an amazing price tag 🙂
Have you tried these new Essence lipsticks and glosses?
Last week, I had posted an interview with the mother daughter duo behind the brand 42 Dubonnet. If you did not get a chance to read it,you can catch up HERE. The brand brings you the mystery and allure from the 1920’s in the form of petite makeup products which you can easily slip into your purse 🙂 The packaging is inspired by the art deco style from the 1920’s and look stunning. It is no wonder they have won a couple of awards for their unique packaging!!
I am a sucker for packaging and it is a double win in my book when the products perform well too! 42 Dubonnet very kindly sent me 4 of their products to try and I really loved using them. I got a chance to try their Fringe Mascara, Sultry eye gel liner, Lip gloss in the shade La La Lola and the kissable lipstick in Dubonnet.
Let’s start with their eye products. I absolutely loved their mascara! If you are looking for nice fluttery lashes then this one is for you 🙂 The mascara comes with a natural bristle brush and I did not notice any clumping or spidery -ness. I usually go over my lashes 3 times and sometimes even 4 and there was no clumping even then. So yay! It stays put all day- no smudging, no flaking. It holds a curl and my lashes look thick and fluttery, in other words this mascara is perfect!
I am not a pot gel liner person (always liked felt/brush pens ) so this was the first time in years I am trying a pot gel liner. Guess what..I really like it! It is a nice jet black color and stays put all day. Again like the mascara, there was no smudging at the end of the day and the black was as intense as it was when freshly applied, even after 8 hours of wear.
The lip products were both love at first sight for me or rather love at first wear! The kissable lipstick in the shade Dubonnet is a beautiful warm red and the formula is incredibly smooth and creamy although it is matte. It feels light weight on the lips and is very pigmented. Overall, I love the shade, the texture and it does not dry my lips so I might pick up some of the other shades they offer 🙂
The lip gloss in La La Lola ( love the name) is a beautiful deep purple shade with fine golden shimmers. This looks stunning on the lips on its own and feels very comfy. I did not find it to be too sticky and actually enjoyed pairing it with the lipstick ..it gave the lipstick a different depth of color! Unlike most lip glosses, this one comes with a brush instead of the doe foot applicator. I feel like you get a better controlled application with the brush.
I love that the products are all made in the USA and cruelty free. Overall, the brand has some beautiful high quality products and if you would like to see what else they offer do check their website. My favorite out of these 4 products would be the mascara and the lipstick 🙂 I am looking forward to the new lipstick shades they plan to release soon and would love to try their eyeshadows too 🙂
Have you tried 42 Dubonnet products? If so, what are your favorites?
Hope you’ll are having a great week!
Until next time,ciao!!

If you did not get a chance to catch up on my previous post HERE, do check it out! I had the opportunity to interview the co founder and CEO of Lucy B’s Beauty! Today I want to share with you some of the lovely products the brand has to offer. Let’s talk about my favorite product first, the Hydra Bloom Rose Bath and Body oil!
This is what I’d call Spring in a bottle! It was really nice to receive this in the mail a day before a snowstorm hit us. It reminded me of spring which is my favorite time of the year. Not only does this look beautiful on your bath room counter this guy provides some serious moisture to the skin.
This oil can be used in a variety of ways, a face oil, adding a few drops to your bath water or using it right after your bath. I personally like to use this when I step out of the shower and just rub it on my damp skin. The result is supple hydrated skin!
The oil is a bend of Argan oil, Sunflower seed oil, Vitamin E, Rose Geranium Essential oil, Organic Rose buds and Lucy B’s signature Australian Flower essences (Boab, Five Corners, Dog Rose, Sturt Desert Rose and Southern Cross). The ingredients sound great don’t they?!
The smell of the rose body oil is not strong, in fact it is extremely subtle that even someone who generally doesn’t like rose scented products (I’m looking at you mom..if you’re reading this :D) can use this. In case you don’t like anything with rose in it they do offer a lavender bath and body oil too!
The other product Lucy kindly sent me, is a lip gloss from their Apothecary collection. I always have a lip gloss hanging around in my bag (or diaper bag these days!) especially during the colder months. I always like to use a lip gloss to provide some instant hydration when on the go and this one does the job nicely.
The gloss also has a nice vanilla scent to it. It is a bit sticky but in the winter months I do not mind it so much. I really like the shade cocoa berry. They offer their tinted glosses in 3 other shades in addition to this. Do check out their website .
Overall, I really enjoyed both the products I received from Lucy B’s Beauty. The Hydra Bloom Rose oil makes an amazing gift and the gloss is a nice staple for on the go touch ups. I am looking forward to trying out Lucy B’s shimmer oils once it’s summer!
Have you tried anything from Lucy B’s Beauty? If not what would you like to try?
Until next time, ciao!!

I recently started interviewing the founders of Indie beauty brands, which has been a lot of fun! Each brand has a unique story and it is fun to get to know the creative minds behind unique products. Today, I’d like to introduce you to Lucy Baldock – Sacchi, the CEO and co founder of Lucy B’s Beauty. She is a celebrity make up artist who has worked extensively with celebrities like Claudia Schiffer, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kylie Minogue, Johnny Depp to name a few.
Lucy B’s Beauty is a natural, cruelty free beauty brand based out of California but they bring to you products infused with botanical ingredients used by the Aborigines in Australia. Read on to find out more about Lucy B’s Beauty and Lucy’s journey as co founder so far!
Being a successful makeup artist who worked with top models and some of Hollywood’s big names, I thought I would start the interview by asking how did you get into the field of makeup artistry?
My parents were in show business (music side in London) so I was always surrounded by Art and Film and the people that produced Art and Music during the 1970’s.. it was a great inspiration to me. I loved all things beauty, fashion and Art so was always doing photo shoots. I partnered with a friend who was breaking into photography… then was approached by a great make up artist agency in USA to work with them..
What inspired you to start Lucy B’s Beauty?
After two decades of working on photo shoots, for top magazines such as Vogue, Elle and Marie Claire, traveling the globe with models, actors and many celebrities doing hair& makeup, I was always given gratis every brand to test on my clients and I foresaw a trend in natural and organic beauty. I then set about with my photographer and artist husband Marco Sacchi to design a range to launch initially with my celebrity clientele as gifts.. I was working in Australia for 3 weeks with super model Elle McPherson, we went on a day off to the Uluru Cultural center and learnt all about the powerful plants that the Aboriginal people have used for healing emotional and physical ailments for many thousands of years.. I started learning more about them and worked on a range to launch. The iconic Fred Segal store in LA heard about our range and the rest is (her-story!)~ history
The bath oils and shimmer oils are beautiful! I love the hydra bloom Rose bath and body oil you kindly sent me! It smells divine and is very calming and relaxing. I would love to hear the story behind these products.
HYDRA BLOOM Organics are the holy grail of high grade organic ingredients pared with recycled packaging.. the beautiful glass can be used as flower vases and refilled. I think a product should not only be the highest quality organic but also look stunning.. the addition of organic rose buds, lavender flowers and our signature flower essences raise the vibration of the product.
I personally love Australian natural skincare brands. Australia has some amazing indigenous plants and I was thrilled to see that you use a unique blend of 5 Australian flower essences (Southern Cross, Sturt Desert Rose, Five Corners, Boab and Dog Rose) in many of your products. What is the significance of these 5 flowers
As a combination essence it has a vibrational effect of boosting ones confidence! Each flower has amazingly powerful properties used for thousands of years to heal them on many levels. Southern Cross~ helps one take responsibility for their own joy; Sturt Desert Rose~ helps you access your courage; Five Corners~helps one celebrate their own beauty; Boab~ helps one to release negative ancestral patterns and Dog Rose~ helps one embrace life more fully.
Lucy B’s also has an impressive range of perfumes.Where do you seek inspiration for the perfumes you create?
As a child in London I was always into my mothers perfumes, layering them and admiring their gorgeous bottles.. I truly created them from amazing memories of England and Australia.. two incredible places of magnificent beauty I was fortunate to live in. The scents range from Amber Honey Suckle, Peony Rose and Mandarin Musk, Water Lotus and Vanilla, Green Fig & Vanilla, Gardenia, (all inspired by my home town London) and the plethora of gorgeous English gardens my family and Grandmother would take us to..such as Kew Gardens, The Chelsea flower show and while on a trip to Australia I fell in LOVE with Frangipani (aka Plumeria) a waxy fragrant beachy flower that is grows abundantly all over Australia. I lived there for a while with a huge Frangipani tree in our garden. Other tropical scents were also growing wild over there.. Tiare Coconut & Jasmine.
Which of Lucy B’s Beauty products would you pick as your personal favorites?
What are some of the challenges you have faced as a beauty brand entrepreneur and how did you overcome them?
This journey is not for the feint of heart! , one gets challenged often on many levels, having great ideas and staying truly focused on your brands core beliefs is key, I sort of compare it to having a hit song and singing it for a long time, refreshing the way to sing it and present it is key to staying fresh.
Listening to your intuition is so important. Growing slowly is key to see what works for your customer base. Listening to your stores and customers is always important. Stores are important but online selling and social has become equally important for sales.
What advice do you have for anyone wanting to start a beauty brand?
Its like building a house you’ll always need treble the funds what you think you’ll need! This can be over time though, always create a business plan and update every two years as you reach certain goals. Keep your day job to supplement income until it takes off and has a steady flow. Estimate 2-4 years. Get a mentor or 3 already in the business or with a business, ask questions as much as possible, attend seminars. Learn how to create spreadsheets then you know at a glance what everything actually costs, creating a COG (cost of goods) spreadsheet include shipping components to your company, the actual final items, its also great for making lists and having a focus on whats priority to do next. Use companies like legal zoom to help create your company & trademarks and for good inexpensive advice.
Lastly, could you give us a sneak peak of what products to expect from Lucy B’s this year 🙂
I’m working on a great kit for winter, can’t say what it is until we launch.. we’ll let you know.
Hope you enjoyed reading this interview and getting to know Lucy and her brand Lucy B’ s Beauty! Stay tuned for a review of some products from Lucy B’s beauty coming up this Friday!!
Hope everyone is having a great start to the new year! I wanted to include this lip product gift set in the indie beauty gift guide series I did in December, but unfortunately the package arrived after Christmas. This is not a limited edition set, so you can always check this out when you need to buy a gift for someone 🙂
The set comes in a beautiful cardboard box, which has a mirror inside and can be reused. I love the design, it is elegant and chic! Lucky Chick is an Indie brand and their products are all rooted in art and creativity which is very much reflected in their packaging and design. They also are all about bold colors and they do have some interesting shades of lip lacquers sold individually. Check out their website HERE.
The masterpiece set which they kindly sent me, has 4 lip lacquers and 1 of their lip glazes. It retails for around 80$, and considering that each individual tube retails for 20$, it is a great way to sample some of their shades. The set comes with the following shades; Desire, Joy, Royal, Sweet and the Lip glaze in the shade Shimmery.
The lip lacquers are described as high shine , nourishing and richly pigmented and I think they have delivered on all these claims. I found them really nourishing even in the cold (my lips hate the cold) and the lacquers are pigmented!
My favorite shade is the red (Desire), which is very pigmented and very comfortable on the lips! I love that it is a 1 swipe and done red. I would suggest a lip liner though, since it did bleed a teeny tiny bit after a few hours of wear. I kind of expected that to happen since these are not matte and have a lovely comfortable creamy texture.
The other lacquer shades also have a similar consistency. They are light weight and don’t feel stringy or goopy on the lips.
The bright pink shade called Joy is perfect for the summer. I found this shade to be very pigmented too. The purple shade Royal and the nude one called Sweet needed 2 swipes to achieve full color potential on the lips. I like to mix the shades in the set together to make custom colors 🙂 I rarely wear a purple shade on its own so I had a lot of fun mixing it in with the other shades. Too much layering and mixing can result in the formula getting a bit thick and goopy so don’t over do the mixing 😉
The lip glaze in Shimmery is a great grown up glitter gloss! It does not feel gritty on the lips and is very moisturizing. As seen in the swatch, the fine shimmer catches the light beautifully and looks great paired with the lacquers.
I found that all of the lip lacquers and the glaze have a floral scent to them expect the shade Desire. It is not an over powering scent but it was noticeable upon application. I would have loved all the shades to be non perfumed like Desire.
Overall, I think this a cute gift set which will make any lip junkie happy 🙂 You can always gift it to yourself too 😀 Have you tried any of the lip lacquers or glazes from Lucky Chick Cosmetics?
Until next time, ciao!!!

So the month of December was great not just to grab some high end stuff but drugstore as well! I was lucky to find some great things I’ve been wanting to try for a while heavily discounted at my local CVS. I am not much of a lipgloss person so I usually do not gravitate towards them. I love the brand Milani and almost everything I have tried from them have been great so when I saw their brilliant shine gloss at a discount I thought why not try it out. The color selection for these glosses is impressive! I picked up only one and that was in the shade Ravish Raspberry 06.
First off..I love love this color! 🙂 Its a nice muted fuchsia pink. The gloss is not full on opaque on the lips but instead gives a very nice translucent color which is high shine like the name suggests! The texture of the gloss is great too..its thick but not goopy. On the lips it does have a slight tact but I would not call this gloss sticky. It feels really comfortable on the lips and is not drying at all. Overall, i think they have nailed it formula and finish wise 😀
I f you smell the gloss in the tube it does have a faint vanilla scent which is not overpowering and which is barely detected once you apply it on your lips. I am not very fond of the paddle brush type applicator that comes with this gloss. I feel it picks up too much product so you might have to watch out for that and wipe off some excess product from it before applying it on your lips.
Overall I really this gloss..the formula, the feeling on the lips, the finish , the color..and if your wondering how this shade swatches here you go 😉
If you’ve fallen in love with this shade as much I have..then I ‘d say go for it! The other shades in this collection are great too..I might be picking some up the next time I come across a Milani display (hopefully they don’t plan on discontinuing these..they are quite fabulous!).
It’s December! Tis the season for family, shopping, gifts and food! I was sent these 3 holiday gift sets by Markwins which I think are the perfect stocking stuffers for the friend or family member who loves all things One Direction.
The 3 kits that were sent to me were the Electroglam mascara kit, the Liquilights Glow gloss kit and the Rock me Nail kit. Lets take a look at them one at a time now shall we? 🙂
The Electroglam mascara kit
The kit comes with 3 tubes of colored mascara which can be either used on the lashes or on small sections of hair. I was far more interested to see how they looked when applied to my hair than lashes so I do not have any pics of them on my lashes. The 3 shades that come in this kit are as follows:
Why don’t we go there- Shock of blue
Does he know?- Pinkest hot pink
Story of my life- Amped canary yellow
I liked how the blue shade looked on my hair! The wand is a typical mascara wand and after stroking this onto your hair try to gently separate your hair strands with your fingers. This will help distribute the color more evenly than by simply applying with the wand.
This of course in no way compares to actually dying your hair blue but as far as temporary hair color goes , this looks decent. These come off really easy with a single shampoo wash so it is a nice way to add some color accents to your hair for an evening out.
The Liquilights Glow gloss kit
The gloss set comes with 3 lip glosses in the following shades:
Through the Dark- Electric glitter poppy lip gloss that glows to neon red-orange under UV light
Kiss You- Orange glitter rush lip gloss that glows to neon yellow under UV light
Taken – Powerhouse glitter pink lip gloss that glows to neon orange under UV light
I like the formula of these glosses. They are non drying, non sticky and have no offense smells. The only thing I don’t like about them is the glitter! That is mostly since I am personally not a fan of glitter in lipglosses. The glitter also makes the gloss feel a tad bit gritty on the lips.
These glosses are supposed to change color under UV black light. Unfortunately, I do not have access to black light and so couldn’t test that out. Do let me know if anyone of you guys tested these out under black light 🙂
Rock Me Nail kit
This kit comprises of 3 nail varnishes and 3 pots of loose glitter. They suggest you sprinkle the glitter over wet polish. I tried this out and suggest that you apply an additional top coat post the glitter sprinkling step unless you like textured nails which get caught on every possible fabric!
The shade names of the nail varnishes and glitter top coats are as follows:
Happily– UV iced blue glitter
Moments- UV neon pink
Diana- UV 3D holographic
Kicks- UV snow cone blue
Not afraid- UV electrified pink glitter
Star– UV holo glitter
Like the lip glosses these too supposedly transform under black light. I found that the blue and pink nail varnishes needed 3 coats to look opaque on my nails. The silver glittery nail varnish however was able to deposit sufficient amounts of glitter in 1 coat. The glitter toppings are messy! So make sure your layout before you begin your manicure allows you to clean up glitter. Although the glitter toppings are messy and feel gritty on the nails they do look nice once applied.
Overall, these are great little gifts for One direction fans. In case you do feel like grabbing these they are available at the following stores:
Lord & Taylor
