I don’t wear makeup when I am at home so the whole month of March I was makeup free. By the time April rolled in, I decided to wear some makeup every once in a while just to have fun and feel good. I have to say it does feel weird wearing a full face of makeup to do laundry 😀 but then again it was fun to experiment. Makeup has always made me happy ..simply admiring a beautifully made compact or opening a beautiful eyeshadow palette or swatching some lip products, so during these strange times it still offers some level of comfort.
It is also funny that these days when I do step out of the house for a quick stroll, the last thing on my mind is wearing makeup! With a mask covering half my face, sun glasses and hat ..there is very little facial skin to display 😀 So in a way things have reversed, no makeup outside the house and makeup inside the house when I feel like it 😀
Here is a quick sneak peak of makeup I’ve been enjoying:
Do check out my youtube video below where I talk about and swatch all these lovely products!
These are the strangest times! As I look back at life just 2 months ago, it was bursting with excitement, travel plans, meeting people and what not..so much has changed! We have been in lockdown for more than a month now and makeup is something I wear only when I step out, so I have been bare faced for more than a month now. I do miss the excitement of playing around with my collection, so I think I’ll make an effort to wear some makeup during the weeks to come..even if it’s just to do laundry 😀
The Kiko Milano Extra Sculpt Volume Mascara is definitely not going to join the stay at home makeup party! This mascara and I have an intense love hate relationship. The intial days were rosy and full of love. I found the mascara to live up to it’s claims of being volumizing for the first week . It also gave good definition and length to my lashes. I have pretty decent lashes to begin with, so I liked the extra volume and length this gave.
The packaging is pretty nice..a geometric glossy black tube. Week 2 …things started going down hill. The mascara formula started getting increasingly clumpy. The brush started getting clumps of product on it..my lashes started getting clumpy to the point that it looked better with no mascara.
Funny thing about this mascara is that once in a while it performed like it did in week 1 and sometimes like how it behaved in week 2. I dunno if its got to do with how the product coats the brush but this darn thing never gave consistent results. Some days you win the mascara lottery and some days you do not!
I also found it hard to keep the mascara tube from getting a ring of dried up product at the opening. At the 3 month mark, I finally decided to part ways with this guy. I have heard many people rave about this mascara , so it could be user error, old tube, personal preference etc that heavily decides if this is your best friend in the mascara department.
I am a big fan of Kiko Milano products and currently I am using another one of their mascaras which is working out far better than this one for me! Stay tuned for a review coming soon!
Overall, I am not a fan of this particular mascara and won’t re purchase. Have you tried the Kiko Milano extra sculpt volume mascara?
Last week, I had posted an interview with the mother daughter duo behind the brand 42 Dubonnet. If you did not get a chance to read it,you can catch up HERE. The brand brings you the mystery and allure from the 1920’s in the form of petite makeup products which you can easily slip into your purse 🙂 The packaging is inspired by the art deco style from the 1920’s and look stunning. It is no wonder they have won a couple of awards for their unique packaging!!
I am a sucker for packaging and it is a double win in my book when the products perform well too! 42 Dubonnet very kindly sent me 4 of their products to try and I really loved using them. I got a chance to try their Fringe Mascara, Sultry eye gel liner, Lip gloss in the shade La La Lola and the kissable lipstick in Dubonnet.
Let’s start with their eye products. I absolutely loved their mascara! If you are looking for nice fluttery lashes then this one is for you 🙂 The mascara comes with a natural bristle brush and I did not notice any clumping or spidery -ness. I usually go over my lashes 3 times and sometimes even 4 and there was no clumping even then. So yay! It stays put all day- no smudging, no flaking. It holds a curl and my lashes look thick and fluttery, in other words this mascara is perfect!
I am not a pot gel liner person (always liked felt/brush pens ) so this was the first time in years I am trying a pot gel liner. Guess what..I really like it! It is a nice jet black color and stays put all day. Again like the mascara, there was no smudging at the end of the day and the black was as intense as it was when freshly applied, even after 8 hours of wear.
The lip products were both love at first sight for me or rather love at first wear! The kissable lipstick in the shade Dubonnet is a beautiful warm red and the formula is incredibly smooth and creamy although it is matte. It feels light weight on the lips and is very pigmented. Overall, I love the shade, the texture and it does not dry my lips so I might pick up some of the other shades they offer 🙂
The lip gloss in La La Lola ( love the name) is a beautiful deep purple shade with fine golden shimmers. This looks stunning on the lips on its own and feels very comfy. I did not find it to be too sticky and actually enjoyed pairing it with the lipstick ..it gave the lipstick a different depth of color! Unlike most lip glosses, this one comes with a brush instead of the doe foot applicator. I feel like you get a better controlled application with the brush.
I love that the products are all made in the USA and cruelty free. Overall, the brand has some beautiful high quality products and if you would like to see what else they offer do check their website. My favorite out of these 4 products would be the mascara and the lipstick 🙂 I am looking forward to the new lipstick shades they plan to release soon and would love to try their eyeshadows too 🙂
Have you tried 42 Dubonnet products? If so, what are your favorites?
Hope you’ll are having a great week!
Until next time,ciao!!

I am currently at my parent’s house having a nice break from my own chaotic home, eating good food, online shopping and lazying about 😀 Now, that is my kind of weekend…especially post baby 😉
I received the LORAC Pro Mascara for free when I purchased something from their site a while back..I think it might be when I bought the LORAC Pro palette 2 (Psst..I’ve fallen out of love with it sadly).
I was quite bummed when I first opened up the tube since the brush was huge and not my style at all. Anyway they say not to completely dismiss a mascara by the shape and size of the wand..so I went ahead anyway and gave it a try.
As expected, the big brush was a problem for me. Maybe its my eye shape..but this humongous brush proved to be an issue when I tried to coat my inner most lashes. Take a look at the brush below:
It also didn’t help that each time I pull the wand out of the tube, the tip would have a huge blob of the mascara. I pretty much always landed up getting mascara smeared on my lids or the nose or somewhere near my eyes when I used this wand 😦
The messy application aside, the actual mascara formula wasn’t that great either. I think it can be best described as meh! I have used better drugstore mascaras and at the same time the formula on this one wasn’t the most terrible one I have used till date.
I usually look for a combination of length (70%) and volume (30%) when it comes to mascaras. This formula did not wow me in either department. Things were going on okay in the Meh mascara world for a while and then the tube crossed the 1 month mark..things went downhill from there! The drier formula made it impossible for me to apply more than 1 coat…2 coats and I had 3 lashes due to massive clumping 😦
I have to give this mascara some brownie points for not smudging and lasting all day when applied. Also I do have sensitive eyes and these did not make me tear up.
Overall, this mascara was just not my cup of tea and I am glad I got this as a gift with purchase. Have you tried the LORAC Pro mascara? Does it work for you?
September was a really busy month with lots of work related stuff along with quite a bit of travel sprinkled in! October looks like another travel busy month for me and so I thought of sharing with you guys what makeup items I plan to carry with me for my trip next week 🙂
I really love my old ‘beginning to get tatty’ makeup bag! It is by this Thai brand called Jim Thompson whose products include bags and silk textiles with lovely prints. I have had this bag for years and picked it up in Singapore. It is a sufficiently large bag which flattens really easily so you can slide it in between clothes in your suitcase to lessen any impact on your items as your suitcase is thrown in and out of planes 😉 Now lets take a look at what is in this bag!
Ck One mascara
I recently reviewed this mascara on the blog. I did not like it initially, but it has really grown on me and I have been using it almost every time I wear make up these days…so it has to come with me on my travels!
2. Milani Ultra Fine Liquid Eyeliner
This is an oldie but a goodie! I was introduced to this inexpensive but awesome liner by the Youtuber Emily Noel. I love how intense and dark the liner is! It is perfect for those days when you want to do nothing but liner and mascara for the eyes 🙂
3. NYX Dark Circle Concealer
I find this concealer to be quite under rated…not too many people talk about it ! It is awesome for correcting any darkness around your eyes since it has that perfect salmon peachy pink tone to neutralize any dark circles. It is available in multiple shades so you can chose one according to your skin tone. A dark circle concealer is always a good idea when travelling (which means change in time zones and limited sleep!)
4. MAC Limited edition Creamsheen in Mystical
I always like to travel with a nude/my lips but better shade since those are my go to low maintenance lip options everyday. This is one of my favorite my lips but better shade..It was part of the aquatics collection that came out in the summer of 2014 I think.
5.Tarina Tarentino conditioning lip sheen in Floriculture
This lipstick has one of the best formulas! It is comfortable and lasts well too. The shade Floriculture can be built up to get a dark lip or worn sheer for a pop of color on the lips. At one point, I used to carry a ton of lipsticks (you know ..to change things up!) while travelling and noticed I use 2 out of the zillion ones I bring along and the 2 are most of the time a neutral one and a more berry/red one. So nowadays, I just take 2 lipsticks in these 2 categories!
6. Laura Geller Balance-n- Brighten in Fair
If you have been reading my blog for a while you’ll know that this is my ultimate favorite powder foundation! I love the finish and find it hassle free to travel with!
7. Tarina Tarantino Jewel Shadow Palette in Dreamy
The formula of this small palette is buttery! There is no other way to describe it 🙂 The shades in the Dreamy palette are neutral (but shimmery) and can be used for everyday looks. I’ll review this beauty in detail sometime soon!!
8. Japonesque Velvet Touch blush in 04
The shade 04 is a pretty dark pink purple shade which is perfect for fall! As a blushoholic I do find it really hard to take just 1 blush with me 😉
9. The Balm Cindy Lou Manizer
This has become my go to highlighter! Ever since I got it I have almost stopped using the Mary Lou Manizer since this one looks more natural on my skin.
I carry my makeup brushes, cleansers and skincare stuff in other bags..this bag is usually just for makeup. I hope you enjoyed taking a look at my travel makeup bag! If you have any tips on how to travel light, choosing makeup for travel or any related tips do let me know in the comments section!
It has been a while since I last reviewed a mascara on the blog primarily since I was sticking to my Covergirl lash blast mascaras. I got the Calvin Klein mascara last year from Ulta as a birthday gift and I finally cracked it open a month back.
I really like the sleek and simple packaging. The bottom black half of the tube is rubberized so it does have a tendency to pick up dirt much like most of NARS packaging. The USP of this mascara is that it contains 2 types of mascara wands built into 1. If you twist a small section of the cap of the mascara tube, you can scrunch up the rubber bristles. The bristles you see when you first pull out the wand is for lengthening and once you scrunch it by twisting the cap you get bristles that can be used for volumizing the lashes. I have to admit that the idea is quite cool!
I also have to admit that initially I hated this mascara! I found the formula too wet and I primarily used the lengthening brush which gave me spidery lashes (4 to 5 of them!).
Since I usually stick to lengthening mascaras, the first 2 to 3 times I tried this mascara I did not try the volumizing side which proved to be a big mistake 😉 I soon found out that the volumizing bristles not only gave good length and decent volume, they did not clump my lashes..yay!
With just 2 coats of the mascara with the volumizing side I got decent length, volume, definition and curl for my lashes. The mascara lasts a good 8 to 10 hours with no flaking or smudging which is awesome (then again I don’t have very watery eyes..not sure how it will perform if I were to cry!).
I did see a couple of reviews where they noted that the mascara dries up real fast in the tube. Right now I am in my second month of using this guy and so far so good!
The one big negative point for this mascara is that it is tough to take off! I usually use a cleansing oil to take off my makeup followed by a foaming facial cleanser. This mascara starts to flake all over the place when you try to get it off! I am guessing you might land up tugging in your eye area if you were to use makeup removing wipes. It does not say that it is a waterproof one so I am not sure why its so hard to get off (also most water proof ones come off easily when using oil for removal).
Another point to keep in mind if you plan to try this mascara is to not apply more than 2 coats maybe. I found that this mascara weighs down my lashes if I apply more than 2 coats.
The Ck one mascara is priced at 18$ but I am not sure if I want to pay so much when I kinda hate the lengthening bristles and only use the scrunched up volumizing side. I f you can find good use for both the bristles then I’d say it is still worth giving it a try but for me I think I might go back to my drugstore mascaras when I am done with this tube 🙂
Now that summer has officially rolled in ..it is time to change up your makeup game (if you like to change it according to the season!). I usually wear what I feel like wearing irrespective of the season but summer time I usually avoid liquid foundation and try to get a more glow y and dewy look. So here are a few picks from my makeup stash that I see myself using quite a bit this summer!
I just realized that I forgot to include sunscreen in the photograph above! oops!! Don’t forget the sunscreen folks! Its the most important item for your summer time makeup and skincare 🙂
1. Laura Geller Balance and Brighten Foundation in Fair
I love this foundation! I have the travel size from one of her kits and I plan to purchase a full size one after I run out of this.If you have no major acne scars or imperfections you can easily get away looking flawless due to its air brushing effect. It feels light on the skin and its perfect for the summer time 😉
2. Milani Baked blush in Rose d’oro
I am a blush junkie and this is one of my favorites! It gives you the perfect sun kissed looking cheeks. In case you want a closer look at this beauty, here is a pic with the compact open..
…lovely right 😉
3. Bobbi Brown shimmer brick compact in Bronze
This is one of the most amazing products I own and it will last me a lifetime! Its the perfect highlighter/bronzer. You can also use the strips as individual eyeshadows for bronzy lids too. I like to use the top 3 strips as a highlighter and the bottom 2 as a shimmery bronzer.
4. Face Stockholm cream shadow in Chintz *
This is a pretty lilac-pink metallic shade which is great as an easy all over the lid shade. I love the ease of use and the color!!
5. Cover Girl Lash Blast Length in Black
Now, people either hate this or love this mascara. This is one of my favorite mascaras from the drug store. I love long fluttery lashes and this does the job quite well.
6. Blinc Ultrathin Liquid Eyeliner Pen in Black *
The tip of this eyeliner is great for a precise wing or for the thinnest line for your lashline. I like to cut down on the heavy liner in the summer and this is perfect to get the job done!
7. The Balm lipstick in Foxxy Pout
I usually avoid frosty/ metallic looking lipsticks, and this is the only metallic lipstick I own. I don’t wear this quite often due to its frosty nature but I think I can pull it off in the summer! The shade Foxxy Pout is a shimmery, brownish pink shade with gold glitter.
What are your makeup picks for this summer?
Until next time…ciao!!
