The Jason Glowing Apricot Hand and Body Lotion

Hello everyone!

Today I wanted to share with you all, my thoughts on a body lotion I picked up a few months back from the brand Jason. I was filling up my basket online at feelunique and in order to qualify for a free gift/sample I added this body lotion 😀 to my cart. I think I paid somewhere between 8-10$ for this.

As you can see from the picture of the tube, they do not use parabens, Petrolatum, artificial colors or phthalates in their products. They also have the leaping bunny certification so it is cruelty free too! The picture of the apricot (I love apricots and anything that smells like apricots) and the promise of intense moisture for extremely dry skin sucked me right in. Unfortunately, the lotion was kinda meh 😦

The smell of the lotion was not exactly what I had in mind. It did not smell fresh and light, rather it smelt like shampoo/ conditioner to me. Yes, it was an apricot scent but too chemical/synthetic for my taste. The intense moisture for extremely dry skin claim did not pan out so well either in my case. I used this in the dead of winter and it did not provide moisture that lasted more than 3 hours. The big plus about this lotion is that it is non greasy and light on the skin and I think maybe that is the reason it did not work for me in the winter.

Now that my skin is less dry and more normal, it does seem moisturizing. So I think, this works well for those with normal skin as opposed to extremely dry skin as they claim on the tube.

The tube also claims to brighten skin due to the addition of apricot and almond oils which again I didn’t really notice. If you take a look at the ingredients list the main moisturizing ingredients in the lotion is glycerin and glycerin derivatives. The apricot and almond oil are buried somewhere in the middle of list, which is probably why their brightening effects are not so evident when using this lotion.

Overall, to me this is an average body lotion which did not wow me. I like the non greasy feel and therefore will use it up in the coming warmer months.

Have you tried anything from the brand? Do let me know if I am missing out on anything awesome from them 🙂

Until next time…ciao!!

Around the World via Beauty Products- Rosense from Turkey!

Hello everyone!

Hope you all are having a great week so far! It has been a really long time since I did one of my Around the world via beauty posts. Today , I am excited to share with you guys my experience using the brand Rosense from Turkey.  I was fortunate to visit this lovely country last summer and of course I had to pick up some local beauty stuff! I did do some online research on which brands to look out for and I saw that everyone recommended picking up rose water by the brand Rosense since it was 100% pure rose water.

Rosense Rose water
Rosense 100% rose water

I have never used rose water on my skin before but I have heard that it is a great natural toner and has anti bacterial properties. I have seen a few brands selling rose water, but most of them have glycerin or preservatives. It was nice to get my hands on something that was just pure distilled rose water.

I use this at night after cleansing my face and before moisturizing. It takes very little to soak a cotton pad and patting it onto my skin has become one of my favorite steps in my skin care routine! It is nice and refreshing and smells divine.

I honestly, can’t tell if it has improved my skin but but I find that my moisturizer sinks in better after this step. I just like how it feels on my skin , generally lifts your mood (must be the smell of roses!) and makes you feel like your in a Spa!

A little online search shows that Rosense has a Canada and UK website and they are available on amazon UK. I  think it is available in Germany too although I didn’t find a country specific website.

It would be awesome if Rosense was more readily available..its a Spa for your face in a nice Pink bottle 😀

Overall, I like this to generally pamper my face and it is quite uplifting after a long day.Have you tried Rose water in your beauty routine? Do let me know your favorite brands of Rose water!

Until next time… ciao!!

Jane Iredale Lipcolor in Renee

Hello folks!!

Hope you had a great week! It feels good to blog towards the end of a really hectic week at work! Today, I am finally sharing my thoughts on a lipstick which I use so often that I’ve overlooked reviewing it here 🙂 I picked up the Jane Iredale pure moist lipstick in Renee on Hautelook maybe a year back and have used it a ton since adding it to my lipstick drawer. The packaging on mine is the older thicker tube packaging. They have revamped the design to a more sleek tube which you can take a look at on the Jane Iredale website. I hope they haven’t changed the formula because this one is awesome formula wise!

Jane Iredale Lipcolor

The shade I picked up is a lovely warm to neutral tone petal pink shade called Renee. This color works fabulously with my yellow undertone skin and I do usually find it challenging to find a petal pink shade that doesn’t lean too cool. The shade is perfect for everyday wear- office appropriate for sure!

This is a no fuss product which you can slap it on your lips and go about your daily business. I like the shape of the lipstick bullet since it almost hugs the lips and glides on smoothly. The formula is the right balance of moisture, shine and matte. There isn’t much slip to the product so once it is on your lips it doesn’t glide all over the place, at the same time, it is not a dry formula either. It leaves the right amount of shine on the lips and feels lightweight and comfortable.

The lipstick has a slight vanilla mint scent which is very mild and does not irritate my lips. My lips are usually sensitive to mint scented products and this did not cause any discomfort.  The staying power is average with the product fading a bit with eating and drinking. This does not stain the lips but does not fade away in a patchy fashion as the day goes by. Overall, the formula gets an A+ from me.

I do not remember how much I paid for this lipstick on Hautelook, but on the Jane Iredale website the lipsticks with the new packaging are priced at 25$. That is quite expensive! I am not sure if I will pick up any of the other colors simply because I hate the new packaging! I really like the old packaging which looks quite classy in my opinion. I also like the shape of the bullet in the old version. The newer ones have the standard slanted tip.

Overall, I am now curious to try more Jane Iredale products! This was my first purchase from their line and I really like it. What are your favorite Jane Iredale products?

Until next time, ciao!!

Caudalie Vinosource Riche Intense Moisture Rescue Cream

Hello everyone!!

Last week, I had posted my favorite winter time face mask (HERE). I thought I’d continue the skin care theme onto this week too! For the last 3 months, I have been trying out the Caudalie Vinosource Intense moisture rescue cream and have fallen in ❤ with it! This is my first time trying anything from the brand and I am very impressed so far.

First off, I love the packaging. The tube style packaging not only makes it easier to travel with and is hygienic, it also ensures that the ingredients are not exposed to air. The tube holds 40 ml of product which is not a lot for the price tag, but surprisingly you don’t need much to cover your face. I have been using this tube for over 3 months and I still have quite a bit left! The product is dispensed through a small pin sized hole in the tube and that I feel, is quite indicative of how much you need for a single application.

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you will know that I have extremely dry skin. This cream works really well for my skin! I find that the best time to apply this is immediate after washing your face, when your skin is still a bit damp. The cream is a bit thick and it spreads easier on slightly damp skin. After application, your skin will feel nice and moisturized without any tackiness. Sounds really good right!? 😉

The cream does have a slight herbal scent which I find to be mild and therefore don’t mind. The cream has no SPF  so I have been using this as a night cream. I therefore , don’t know how well this performs under makeup.

Ingredient List

I think the ingredient list for this cream looks good too! I find really good ingredients for dry skin like glycerin, squalene, grape seed oil, shea butter and olive oil esters in the top half of the list.

Have you tried this cream or any other Caudalie product? I am looking forward to exploring more of their products after falling in love with this one! Do leave your recommendations below in the comments, I would love to read them!

Until next time…ciao!!

Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash

Hola folks!!

I have been using the Origins checks and balances face wash for over 6 months and I am now finally ready to give my thoughts on this face wash 🙂

Origins is an Estee Lauder company which makes natural skincare products with many of their products formulated with plant oils. They are also notable for formulating their products without parabens, phthalates, propylene glycol, mineral oil, PABA, petrolatum, paraffin and synthetic colors, fragrances and animal ingredients..Phew! That was a long sentence!! I am not sure if Origins is a cruelty free brand..they do mention on the face wash tube that they test their products on volunteer panels but don’t out right say they don’t test on animals.

The Origins Checks and Balances frothy face wash
The Origins Checks and Balances frothy face wash

This face wash claims to be able to cleanse both the dry and oily parts of your face without cancelling each other out…I’m not so sure about that. I have pretty dry skin and in the summers I have an oily T zone but for the most part my skin is dry. Although, they claim that your skin won’t feel stripped or tight after using it, my skin does feel slightly tight after using it. I have to immediately moisturize my skin after using this cleanser which is what I do always anyway so this wasn’t a deal breaker for me.

A single tube can last a really long time! The tube above is pretty full looking considering I’ve used this everyday for 6 months. All you need is a really tiny pea size for your whole face and it froths up well too (as the product name implies!). Unfortunately, all that frothiness does not remove makeup..you will definitely need to use a separate makeup remover for that purpose.

The cleanser has a minty smell which although mild, I am not a fan of! It smells a bit like my toothpaste 😐 This is due to the presence of spearmint oil among the ingredients in this product.

Ingredient List
Ingredient List

The ingredients in this cleanser look good..till you get to all the essential oils listed. If you have extremely sensitive skin, you might know already that these are potential skin irritants. I have seen reviews from people with really sensitive skin on makeup alley talking about how the product caused breakouts , rashes and redness. Although my skin is pretty sensitive in general, I did not experience any skin irritation but if you know for sure that your skin doesn’t take kindly to stuff like spearmint and bergamot oil this cleanser is best avoided!

I like the idea of using a face wash with ingredients like lavender water, glycerin and Behenic acid (major component of Moringa oil) but I did not see any effect of these ingredients on my skin. For me, this was a very basic face wash which didn’t do anything exciting to my skin and so I might not be repurchasing it once I am done with the current tube.

Have you tried the Origins Checks and Balances frothy face wash? What are your thoughts?

Have a great week!!

Until next time…ciao!!

DIY Beauty~ Yogurt face masks !

Hello folks!!

Just 2 more days for the weekend! Yay! Today I have 2 really easy face masks you can try out this weekend to relax and pamper yourself after a hard work week 🙂 Now, the masks I am going to share here are by no means new or innovative; just ones I found very effective personally!

I have very dry skin which gets red and irritated easily (sensitive and fussy) and I got sun burnt a couple of weeks back (yikes!).  All these factors made my skin care a bit more complicated for the past couple of weeks. I wanted to try something natural to sort of nurse my skin back to health and that is how I got hooked to yogurt face masks!

I tried 2 types of yogurt face mask for 4 days a week for the past 3 weeks and voila! My skin feels awesome..in fact much better than what it was before I got baked in the sun!

Before we talk about the 2 masks, lets chat a bit about the star ingredient.

Greek yogurt tastes yummy and there is enough research talking about how the probiotics in them are good for your gut health. Well did you know that it is excellent for your skin and hair? 😉 I haven’t tried a hair mask with yogurt yet..if you have, do tell me how it feels! I am concerned there might be some weird smell lingering around , if I use it on my hair. Greek yogurt is rich in lactic acid which helps moisturize skin and it also acts as a very gentle exfoliant by sloughing off dead cells. Another important skin care ingredient found in yogurt is Zinc. Zinc is commonly used in anti acne creams since it helps kill acne causing bacteria. It is also known for its mild astringent properties which help in tightening pores. Sounds good huh?! The 2 masks mentioned below combine yogurt with either honey or oats. If you want you can make your mask with all 3 together!!

1. Yogurt and Oats Mask

This is a simple mask combining 2 teaspoons of full fat Greek yogurt with a teaspoon of rolled oats! (you can adjust the proportion as per your liking). Use more yogurt for a thicker mask and less for a thinner, faster drying mask. I like to leave my mask on for 30 minutes before washing it off using cool water.

Oats works great as a gentle scrub for your face once the mask dries and you start washing it off. If you do not like the scrubbing effect, try adding powdered oats to the yogurt to get the skin care benefits of oats. Oats contain beta glucan which helps to reduce fine lines in addition to being a calming agent for irritated skin. So if you have sensitive skin this mask works great!!

2. Yogurt and Honey Mask

Out of the 2, this is my favorite!! I find this to be very moisturizing for my dry skin and its good enough to eat ;). Again, you will need a teaspoon or more of full fat Greek yogurt and a teaspoon of honey. Give this mixture a whirl with a spoon to incorporate the honey into the yogurt. I like to apply a thick layer of this to my face and leave it on for 30 minutes.

If you like, you can use Manukka honey which  has special benefits (I’ll write another post on that!). Honey has been used for its wound healing and anti microbial properties since ancient times. The ability of honey to draw moisture from the air makes it an amazing moisturizing agent.

Do try these easy masks out! They are natural and you most probably have all the ingredients in your kitchen already!

Until next time…ciao!!

Around the world via beauty products; Kissed by Maui lipsticks from Hawaii!

Hey there everyone!

I have been running this series on the blog for a while now and I am excited to bring you a brand which is from the home country 🙂 I have not been to Hawaii, but hope to visit at some point..but for the time being I am absolutely enjoying some lipsticks made by hand in Hawaii by the cruelty free brand Kissed by Maui.

First off, lets take a moment to admire the packaging! I love the sturdy bamboo tube with the brand name and logo engraved on the wood. They come with a pink ribbon around the lid along with the list of ingredients (which is an awesome ingredient list in my opinion..jojoba oil and shea butter are my favorite moisturizing agents). The 2 shades that I got are Paradise Pink and Haleakala Nights.

Paradise Pink is your everyday blue toned pink lipstick which I feel might be one of their popular colors. It is the perfect shade for spring and summer!

The second shade is not your average lipstick shade 😀 Take a look at Haleakala Nights!

In the tube, this shade looks like a mix of brown, black and red with some blue-green duo chrome action going on. I was quite surprised with the swatch since I did not expect the shade to turn out so …mild looking :D! I was expecting vampy goth red black! Although it looks brown in the swatch and on my lips, this is actually a nice complex shade with the light picking up the blue green sheen very subtly. My lips are naturally quite pigmented so this might come off looking really dark on paler lips. I am currently loving this shade, its a nude dark shade which can work as your fall time nude lip 🙂

I really can’t think of any cons about these lipsticks. They apply beautifully and last 5 -6 hours with light eating and drinking. They have a creamy finish with a sheen (neither glossy nor matte) and do not dry my lips. In fact, I did wear Haleakala Lights without a lip balm underneath a couple of times and it was very comfortable! The date of manufacture is also listed underneath the tube of lipstick and I feel that is helpful when you want to keep a check on the expiry of your lip products (esp when you have plenty!!).

If your one of those who love to support small local business this holiday season, I think these lipsticks make fabulous stocking stuffers! I am thinking of picking some up for friends since they are packaged well and the product is fantastic too! I believe they are currently available only through their website : www.kissedbymaui.com

Hope your having a great day! Until next time ciao!!
