Hello everyone!! Hope you all are having a great weekend! I am generally careful of the eyeliners I use on my waterline, simply because I am terrified of irritating my eyes! I came across reviews that said the Rimmel Exaggerate waterproof eye definer is a great drugstore option for sensitive eyes and so decided to try it out. I have been using this for a while and good news!…it doesn’t irritate my eyes.
I have this in the shade Noir, which to be honest is not the blackest black I have seen. The eye definer is a skinny twist up pencil, which means no sharpening..yay! At the end of the skinny pencil, there is a smudger which can be pulled out and below the smudger is a sharpener..super cool!
The pencil glides on smoothly, with no tugging. Once applied, if you would like to smudge the line, you need to act fast since it sets pretty quickly and once it sets it is pretty smudge proof. I find that this pencil works best for the waterline as opposed to the top lashline. The color fades and starts to smudge when I use this on my lashline. However, this stays pretty well on the waterline much to my surprise!
As you can see from the swatch above, this is not the most intense black liner out there. In fact, when I was trying to take a picture of the swatch, it looked more brown that black on my camera screen!
Overall, I do find this a good eyeliner for the price! My only major issue with this liner is that it is not black enough. I think it is a great drugstore option if you have sensitive eyes and you are looking for an eyeliner for the waterline.
Happy Sunday! As you all may be aware, liquid lipsticks are ‘in’ right now with the matte versions being most popular. Rimmel did come out with their non glossy velvet lacquers a couple of months ago and before testing those out I thought I’d give the original lip lacquer a try! I picked up the showoff lip lacquer in the shade Nova.
The lip lacquer comes housed in a nice sturdy round tube. The bottom part of the tube is supposed to indicate the color of the lip lacquer, unfortunately I didn’t find it to be that accurate. Under store lighting, the pink indicated on the tube looked deeper than the actual pink color of the lip product inside. The shade Nova is a light milky pink with blue tones. Like I said in the store, looking at the tube I didn’t think it would be blue based (Generally blue based pinks don’t look nice on me!)
I really like the applicator which is like the traditional doe foot but with a dip/well to pick up product and to hug the lips better when applying. I have mostly seen this kind of an applicator in higher end lip glosses and liquid lipsticks, so it was a nice surprise to find it in a drugstore product!
First lets talk about all the pros! I really like how pigmented the lip lacquer is! In a single swipe I was able to get a nice opaque coat on the lips. The dip in the applicator is able to pick up the right amount of product needed to cover the lips in 1 swipe from the tube. This also feels really comfy on the lips! I did not experience any stickiness nor did my lips feel dry as the day went by. Overall it feels light on the lips and you tend to forget it is even there!
I have not tried building up the color on my lips since I am pretty happy the full opaqueness achieved with a single swipe. I do suppose it can get a bit gooey if over applied. The staying power is quite decent. It fades away in a non patchy way so it isn’t too high maintenance 🙂
The lip lacquer has a synthetic fruity smell which is really strong when you apply it. The first time I almost gagged at the smell since I generally hate such scents. I still haven’t gotten past the scent which is why I don’t reach for this that often although it looks nice once applied on the lips. However this is not the breaking point for me with this product, its actually the ugly white ring it leaves around your mouth after a couple of hours! I tried to see if applying less of the lacquer will help prevent that ring but sadly it does not 😦
These 2 issues stop me from using the Rimmel lip lacquer often, but if you can get past these 2 issues it is a really nice product that is budget friendly too!
Welcome to an episode of Lilly searching for a good drug store foundation (There will be more foundation trials and tribulations episodes to come). I picked up the Rimmel Lasting Finish a few months back on a whim. I got the wrong shade which seems to always be an issue when I shop for a drug store foundation. However, it wasn’t so off that I couldn’t test it out 🙂
I really enjoy the feel of this foundation. It gives a nice light to medium coverage. I think it can be built up carefully to a full coverage if you want but I have not tried since I am mostly happy with medium coverage.
It dries to a nice matte finish which isn’t too matte that your skin looks parched but just the right amount of matte with a hint of a glow. I was surprised that the matte look didn’t accentuate any dry patches (I do have dry skin), so I think this foundation will work great with most skin types!
Actually when I realized that the shade wasn’t a good match for my skin tone I was hoping this would oxidize 😛 but this doesn’t! So for those of you who can find the right shade this is good news!
The foundation does have a weird floral smell but it disappears after you apply so I am not too bothered by it.
The biggest issue with trying to buy this foundation would be trying to figure out your shade. The transparent tube doesn’t help too much. The shade I picked up has pink undertones and gives my yellow undertone skin a greyish cast if I try to build it up to a medium coverage. It however helps cover up blemishes and also dark circles for me 🙂 So recently I’ve been using this more as a corrector/concealer.
The shade range in general is quite limited. So if you find a shade that matches you perfectly its akin to winning the lottery 🙂
Once you apply the foundation to your face, you have work real fast! I find that once it sets it refuses to budge and blending it out is next to impossible. Because of this I find it easier to apply it in a buffing motion with a brush or with my finger tips. I found it hard to stipple the foundation onto my face since it sets too fast!
Overall, I am impressed with what this foundation can do considering its low price point! I am not sure about the 25 hour claim since I have never worn makeup continuously for more than 12 hours 🙂 This did last me a good 7 to 8 hours before it started to show signs of wearing off so I doubt it will last 25 hours. They also claim to have a build in primer which for me doesn’t make much of a difference when comparing its wear time to other foundations. I do not use a face primer everyday, so I mostly wear foundations over my moisturizer and this one with the built in primer was no different than the rest.
Hope you guys are having a great week! Until next time, ciao!!
