Skinzi Cosmetics Liquid Lipsticks

Hello everyone!

I hope you all had a chance to read my interview post (HERE) featuring the founder of Skinzi Cosmetics, Barby Espiritu. She describes her journey from being a quality engineer to starting her own liquid lipstick brand. They have beautiful matte liquid lipsticks which are specifically for those of us who suffer from dry lips. I typically do not wear liquid matte lipsticks (you can see that I have barely mentioned any on my blog) because of my dry lips. I was therefore really interested in trying out Skinzi’s liquid lipsticks. They currently offer 4 shades on their website and plan to expand their shade range soon!

I really like the packaging of these lipsticks! They are unique and stand out in the sea of liquid lipsticks on the market πŸ™‚ I also think the initial colors they are offering are well thought out. They have a neutral shade : Morning Love, a mauve berry shade: Just Jazzy, a pink : Full Bloom and finally a party red: Paint the Town.

From left to right: Morning Love, Just Jazzy, Full Bloom and Paint the town

The formula which claims to be non drying lives up to this expectation! It glides on like velvet and dries down to a nice comfortable matte finish. They feel very light and comfortable on the lips. It does not highlight the fine lines on your lips nor flake off during the course of the day.

The first time I used one of the liquid lipsticks, I had slathered on a nice thick layer of lip balm..since I didn’t know what to expect with the formula..plus old habits die hard! This made the liquid lip feel a bit gooey on my lips. So wipe off your lip balm before applying these πŸ™‚ and you’ll see how beautiful the finish is πŸ™‚

I like the faint scent these liquid lips have! I could smell some coffee and butterscotch when I first apply it to my lips but after it dries there is no scent.

Look at those colors! Aren’t they pretty!! I enjoyed using all the 4 shades but if I had to pick one shade it will probably be Full Bloom..it reminds me of spring and is such a lovely shade on the lips.

If you plan to eat greasy food, you might need to reapply. I personally do not mind this since most comfortable lipsticks do that and I rather reapply than have a bullet proof moisture sucking lipstick πŸ˜€ Plus, these guys do not flake off but wear away in a uniform fashion leaving a nice stain..so you could go on without reapplying too.

Overall, I really enjoyed these lipsticks and I am excited to see the new shades coming soon from Skinzi!! Have you tried Skinzi Cosmetics?

Until next time, ciao!!!

Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer

Hello folks! It has been raining a bit here the last few days and it feels like summer is starting to say its final goodbyes. Rain or shine, I seem to have dark circles from lack of sleep these days (Thanks to a super active baby boy). I still don’t think they are as bad as the dark circles I have seen with certain friends and family, but its visible and makes me look tired so they gotta get hidden! I made an order with the UK website Feelunique back in January when they had a sale and decided to try the Bourjois Radiance concealer. I have had good luck with Bourjois products in the past, so I was excited to try this out too πŸ™‚

The Bourjois Radiance Reveal concealer claims to correct, illuminate and provide 24 hour hydration. Sounds good so far right? They have also written on the bottle that it contains Mont Blanc glacier water and Hyaluronic acid. Sign me up please!

I picked out the shade 02 Beige. It is a good match for my NC25 TO NC30 skin tone. I plan to use this primarily as an under eye concealer so this was a good match for that purpose.

The concealer comes in a nice frosted glass looking plastic tube. I like the luxe look :). The applicator is a standard doe foot which works well with the product. The concealer is light in texture and not too thick. I dab 2 to 3 dots under my eyes with the doe foot applicator and then use my ring finger to dab and spread it. It is a quick and easy way to get the job done!

I have dry skin under my eyes and this concealer does not accentuate the dryness. In fact it is hydrating and look very natural. The big question is does it do a good job concealing? Yes! It works really well for my moderate dark circles. I am not sure how well this would perform if you are looking to cover up blemishes, acne scars and really dark circles under the eyes.Β  Have you tired this concealer for any of those purposes? Let everyone know in the comments what you think πŸ˜€

After using this concealer I like to set my whole face and under eyes with the Laura Geller Balance n Brighten face powder. It gives the best natural look and everything looks perfect and holds on till end of day.

I do not have any negatives to mention! Looks like this might be my new favorite concealer for a while!! It conceals under eye darkness, stays put once set, has a light weight texture, no dry and crusty under eyes…pretty much checked all the boxes on my perfect under eye concealer list πŸ™‚

Have you tried the Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer?

Until next time, ciao!!!

Grace Cole Passion Fruit and Guava Body Scrub

Hello everyone !

Today I am going to share my thoughts on yet another product I got to try when I was visiting my parents. I have not seen or heard of the brand Grace Cole, and so this is the first product I have tried from their brand. So, a body scrub usually last a long time for me..simply because I forget to use it πŸ˜€ Recently I have started trying to use body scrubs a bit more frequently and decided to try the Grace Cole Passion Fruit and Guava Body Scrub.

Grace Cole Passion Fruit and Guava Body Scrub
Grace Cole Passion Fruit and Guava Body Scrub

Straight out of the tube this does smell like a good blend of passion fruit and guava but, unfortunately the smell does not last once you apply this onto your skin. The body scrub is a very watery gel with tiny scrub particles suspended in it. I am a big fan of body scrubs that work as a shower gel in addition to being just a scrub. Unfortunately, this one was a failure for me simply because it does not lather up. On the plus side, it is not drying on the skin due to its non lathering nature. When using this scrub I am forced to use my shower gel in addition to this. Bath time becomes a complicated 2 step process πŸ˜› Β I also found the scrub a bit too gentle. It would have been great if there were more scrub particles in the gel.

Overall, I am not a big fan of this and probably won’t purchase this again. I am open to trying other products from the brand though. What are your favorite items from the brand Grace Cole?

Until next time…ciao!!

NYX Dark Circle Concealer

Hello folks!

Hope you are all having a lovely Sunday! The NYX Dark circle concealer is something I bought on a whim a year back and I am surprised by how much I kind of like it! I don’t suffer from chronic dark circles thankfully, but there are those days when it looks like my under eye area could do with a little bit of brightening and cancelling any darkness from lack of sleep. With a price tag of just 6$ I thought why not try this out and see what it can do..

NYX Dark Circle Concealer

The concealer comes in 4 shades and I picked up the shade DCC02 Light. The next shade medium looked a bit too dark for my skintone. Ideally a shade in between 02 and 03 probably works best for my skintone (nc25-30). However, since I don’t need to use too much of it, shade 02 works fine for me. The concealer is peachy in color and I think it would be more accurate to call this a corrector.

The texture of this is nice and creamy. It does not have a cakey consistency on the skin and blends really well. As you can see from the picture above, I’ve barely made a dent in the product! You need very little of the product to do the job especially if your dark circles are not intense. The one downside of the creamy texture is that this guy creases unless you set it with a powder. I don’t experience much creasing in normal dry weather since I have dry skin but if you have normal to oily skin you might experience some creasing even with powder on top.

I’m not a fan of the pot packaging, especially since I found this product to work best when applied with fingers. The product warms up when applied with your fingers and helps in the blending process. It feels really light on the skin and that is a huge plus!

Overall, I am not sure if this product has enough coverage for someone suffering from really bad under eye darkness since it has a fairly light to medium coverage. If you are looking for a product to fix some minor darkness issues that pop up once in a while this is great for the price tag!

Have you tried the NYX Dark circle concealer? What is your take on it?

Until next time…ciao!!

Physicians Formula Youthful wear spotless foundation

Hello folks! It is the season of spring releases with both drug store and high end brands flooding the market with new products. I did notice that there seems to be a trend (again) towards serum like foundations this year with Stila, YSL etc launching serum foundations. Today, I thought I’d discuss on the blog, my thoughts on a serum like foundation from the drug store that has been around for a while. I have been using the Physicians formula youthful wear spotless foundation for over a year now and I am finally ready to talk about it πŸ˜€

Physicians formula youthful wear spotless foundation

Last year they did release a luminous version of this, however I thought I’d give this one a try since I heard this gives a natural satin matte finish. The finish on the skin does lean more satin like versus a matte finish and I like the look of it on my dry skin. The foundation does cling sometimes to dry patches but if you exfoliate, it should be fine.

I generally do not like heavy full coverage foundations and this one fits the bill on the type and texture of foundation I like! The foundation is dispensed via a glass dropper and is extremely liquid like. It takes only 3 drops max to apply it all over my face. The coverage is light to medium and it feels very lightweight on the skin..so much so you tend to forget that your wearing foundation. The Β foundation helps even out my skin tone and covers up any redness on the skin.

Glass dropper
Glass dropper

I have to give a shout out to the packaging! This is the cutest foundation bottle I own πŸ™‚ I like the glass bottle with the purple dots and I find the glass dropper very convenient to dispense product.

Now there are a couple of things about the foundation that I am not a big fan of. First off, the smell! This foundation has a very strong herbal scent to it which fortunately doesn’t linger for too long once you’ve applied it onto the skin. However, if you are very sensitive to scents this might be a bit too much for you to handle!

The lasting power of the foundation is not fantastic. I get maximum wear time during the cooler and drier months on my dry skin. During the summer I noticed that my T zone gets oily after 6 hours. If you have very oily skin, this foundation might not be the greatest in terms of lasting power.

The other problem as with many PF products, is the limited shade range. There are I think 3 shades available. I have the lightest shade which has yellow undertones and is a match for my medium NC25 to 30 skin tone. There isn’t any option available for those with very pale skin or anyone with a deeper skin tone.

Shade Light
Shade Light

Overall, I like this foundation although the lasting power during the warmer months isn’t great. This will work well for those looking for a light to medium coverage foundation that feels like skin once applied.

Hope you all are having a great weekend!

Until next time..ciao!!

Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Repair fragrance free lotion

Hello everyone!

Since the last couple of posts on the blog have been makeup related I thought I’d review a body lotion I’ve been testing out for the last 2 months for a change! I was excited to receive a full size of the Vaseline Intensive care advanced repair lotion from Influenster just as winter was rolling in. After using this for 2 months I am not really as thrilled as I was when I first got it 😐

Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Repair Lotion
Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Repair Lotion

Lets first discuss the good stuff..Its fragrance free! I generally like to use mildly fragranced body products but I know lots of people are sensitive to fragrances in their personal care products so its great to see that this is fragrance free. I hear that this is a reformulated version of their original fragrance free intensive care line which I never tried ( I was bought up in a family that loved Nivea more than anything!)

The lotion claims to be non greasy and it isn’t, BUT it doesn’t sink into your skin either! When you apply this on your skin, it feels powdery smooth and silicony ..and tacky! Basically this stuff just adds a layer to your skin and sits on top and I don’t like body lotions to function that way! In fact, I am almost tempted to try this as a primer for foundation due to the smooth layer it forms on top of the skin!! πŸ˜›

I have extremely dry skin..especially in the colder months and this did not do any intensive healing or repairing for sure! It only helped prevent further drying for the time period it formed the layer ( the layer kind of wears off after a few hours). A look at the ingredient list also confirm there is no healing or skin repair ingredients in the lotion.

Ingredient List

It would have been great to see some Shea butter or Vitamin E in there instead of the very basic age old mix of glycerin, mineral oil and petrolatum! At least then, the repair and intensive care claims stand a chance!

My final grouse with this product is the packaging. Its so difficult to squeeze the product out of the bottle! You need to use both hands and this was the case from day 1 when the bottle was full.

There are so many basic drugstore body lotions which performs equally or better. So its okay if you skip this one, you aren’t missing anything phenomenal!

Until next time..ciao!!

Around the world via beauty products: ‘Fragrances of Ireland’ from Ireland !

Hello everyone!!

If you’ve been following this series on my blog you might already know how exciting this series is for me and hopefully your enjoying it as much as I am ! πŸ™‚ Today is the 3rd installment of the around the world via beauty products series and if you would like to check out the past brands and places featured do check out the category around the world via beauty on the side bar of the blog. Today we are travelling to lovely Ireland! The company Fragrances of Ireland is an independent perfume house whose products are inspired by the beauty and nature of Ireland. One of their core fragrances is called Inis which means island in Irish and it is inspired by the western coast of Ireland. Lets take a look at this collection shall we? πŸ˜€

Inis, the energy of the sea
Inis, the energy of the sea

I like the simple clean packaging which is very representative of what the Inis line stands for..the sea, the beach, coolness and clear water. In this post I will be sharing my views on 3 products from this line πŸ™‚

Inis, the energy of the sea cologne spray

This is the core product of this line and it is described as being unisex. I like the clean scent of Inis however I like the smell of this more on my husband than on myself πŸ˜€ This is the type of scent he usually gravitates to.. clean fresh smelling scents which are not too woody or musky. The cologne comes with a little booklet which explains the scent really well. Here is the description for those of you who are perfume connoisseurs:

Top Notes: Sparkling, diffusive citrus notes of Sicilian lemon, Bergamont, Neroli and traces of marine notes

Middle notes: Muguet (lilly of the valley) and Geranium

Bottom notes: Enriching and deepening spice notes of cloves and nutmeg combined with sandalwood, oakmoss and musk

The top notes I detect the most is the smell of Neroli and bergamont. The top notes as you might have noticed are all clean and light smelling. You can very distinctively detect the lilly of the valley middle notes after a point of time. I am no expert in perfumery, but I do know that the way the different notes play out depends on your body core temperature and hence you can detect subtle differences in how it smells on various people.

Inis, the energy of the sea cologne spray
Inis, the energy of the sea cologne spray

The cologne spray comes in a frosty bottle and the name Inis is etched on to the bottle. I am not a fan of the cap of this bottle, which is hard to pull out sometimes! Β Overall, I like this cologne on my husband! It does not disappear at the end of the day and it is subtle enough to wear to work. Does this remind me of the sea? …it does in some ways..the coolness of the scent, the calming and the feel good feeling you get after sniffing it do remind you of a day at the beach or on a boat at sea.

Inis, the energy of the sea body lotion

This is the body lotion with the same scent as the cologne. However, I feel that the middle notes are more prominent when you apply the body lotion on your skin. The body lotion primarily comprises of triglycerides, glycerin and shea butter to do the job of moisturizing. The other non prominent but good for the skin ingredients present include fucus vesiculosus extract and laminaria digitata extract (seaweed extracts).

Inis, the energy of the sea body lotion

The body lotion is not very heavy or greasy feeling on the skin so it is perfect for the summer months or if your looking for a fast absorbing body lotion.

Inis, the energy of the sea nourishing hand cream

This is a 20% shea butter hand cream and I absolutely love this! It is nice, creamy and has just the right hint of the fragrance making it an ideal hand cream. No ones likes an over powering scent to their hand cream. The mild classic scent of Inis makes this quite the refreshing hand cream too!

Inis, the energy of the sea nourishing hand cream
Inis, the energy of the sea nourishing hand cream

This is a fast absorbing but deep conditioning hand cream with no greasy after feel like most other hand creams which have a high proportion of shea butter in them. What makes this extra special is of course the light subtle clean scent πŸ™‚

Hope you guys enjoyed this post! Frangrances of Ireland has several other collections which are all inspired by Ireland so if your in the mood to experience Ireland from the comfort of your home do check out what else they have to offer;Β www.fragrancesofireland.com
